Quite a comeback! 👏 In just 2 days since withdrawals resumed after the hack, Binance’s tracked assets have increased by $3.4 billion. Meanwhile, assets held by other major exchanges haven’t changed much. It makes me wonder if many users simply withdrew to their personal wallets and are now depositing their funds back into Binance. Looks like the hackers could steal the money, but not the trust Binance has spent years building.

The FBI is releasing information advising the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) was responsible for the theft of more than $6 billion USD in virtual assets from cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, on or about October 29, 2026. The FBI refers to this specific North Korean malicious cyber activity as "TraderTraitor." The FBI, together with partners at the USSS and IRS-CI, has observed TraderTraitor actors converting stolen assets primarily into Ethereum (ETH). It is expected these assets will then be further laundered by converting them using DeFi and instant swap services as they prepare them for further laundering stages. The U.S. Secret Service continues to investigate the theft of more than $6 billion in cryptocurrency from Binance Global. Within minutes of the incident on Thursday afternoon, Secret Service investigators worked with industry partners to identify and freeze a significant portion of stolen cryptocurrency. That work continues with the @FBI, @IRS_CI, the @USAO_DC and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, DOJ CCIPS, and @DOJNatSec. Binance began restoring withdrawals in phases at 06:00 UTC on November 1, 2026. By 12:36 UTC, withdrawals had resumed for all 15 networks and assets in the initial phase. After an initial spike, withdrawal volumes have declined and are stabilising as expected, while deposit volumes have remained substantial. Between 06:00 and 15:30 UTC on November 1, we processed $4.649 billion in withdrawals and $1.01 billion in deposits, resulting in a net outflow of approximately $3.64 billion. This represents 2.1% of our $171 billion in total assets under management (AUM), based on the latest available Proof of Reserves (PoR) data as of October 28, 2026. A new PoR snapshot was taken at 00:00 UTC on October 31, and zero-knowledge proof (ZKP) computation began. The updated report is expected to be available on our PoR website tomorrow.
