The reality of the "independent" review telling every school in England to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism: its author, Sir David Bell, was being paid by a government agency while he wrote it, and a pro-Israel charity has listed him on its council for ten years.
The government told the public he was "independent of Government" and had "no conflict of interest". Neither is true.
What we found:
- Bell was paid £20,000 a year as vice-chair of Skills England, a government agency, in a seat the Department for Education gave him. He held it until August, through most of the review.
- The Academic Study Group on Israel and the Middle East has listed him on its council since at least 2016. Its website says its one firm policy is opposing boycotts of Israel. It gives talks on Israel in schools, which is exactly what his review was asked to judge.
- In 2005, as chief inspector of schools, he singled out Muslim schools as a challenge to "our coherence as a nation". The chairman of the Association of Muslim Schools called it Islamophobia, and his own inspectors said he had presented a personal view as inspection evidence.
Then we followed the money:
- The department's £1.3 million antisemitism training contract had one bidder, according to the tender record. It went to Palace Yard, a company set up in 2022 by the former Labour MP Natascha Engel.
- That contract says all its training must use the IHRA definition "as a foundation". It was signed eight months before Bell was appointed. His review then recommended IHRA.
- Two of the people who advised Bell, from Partnerships for Jewish Schools and the Antisemitism Policy Trust, now sit on the group putting his recommendations into practice.
- The Union of Jewish Students, also on that group, holds a contract worth almost £1 million to train universities. Its own policies include "UJS to advocate for Israel within UK Policy and International Law".
- UK Lawyers for Israel* (UKLFI) and the Campaign Against Antisemitism* (CAA) both say the review adopted their recommendations.
*For context, UKLFI once justified the starvation of Palestinians in Gaza by the Israeli occupation as "good for obesity". Both these groups have staunchly defended Israel throughout its perpetration of a genocide in Gaza, and regularly conflate Jewish people with the apartheid state.
This matters because the review decides how every school treats what pupils and teachers say about Israel, and the IHRA definition it recommends treats some criticism of Israel as antisemitic. A review with that power should come from someone with no pay from government and no tie to a pro-Israel charity. Bell had both. The government put one in a footnote and left the other out.
We mapped every link, each with its source, explaining just how far this review is from "independent": newscord.org/editorials/davi…

Beautiful.
Iain Dale completely loses it after a caller refuses to go along with the approved narrative on Russia.
The caller says most people simply don’t care about Russia, don’t see it as a threat, and just want lower energy bills.
“On the street, nobody agrees with your talking points.”
Dale asks: “You don’t think Russia is a threat to this country?”
“No. It’s not”, the caller replies. “The average person just wants their bills to come down.”
Dale then explodes: “Yeah but they don’t want bills to come down by appeasing a brutal Russian dictator who’s invaded the sovereign country of Ukraine and killed hundreds of thousands of people! What part of that do you not get!?”
The caller hits back: “What are you talking about? As if we’re some kind of beacon of humanity. Give me a break!”
You can shout at people all you like, Iain, but it doesn’t make you right. Plenty of people don’t support the Ukraine war, don’t believe Russia is an existential threat to Britain, and know there’s more to this than Putin just waking up one day and deciding to invade for fun.
They don’t buy the “Hitler” comparison and would happily buy cheaper oil if it meant improving the shocking living standards created by years of reckless government policy.
As the caller points out, we’re hardly saints either, not with the regimes we back and the things Britain has done itself.
Most people have seen through the nonsense.

Two weeks ago you were saying the Labour Party got it wrong on Gaza.
Now you're accepting a report that will effectively ban meaningful and robust criticism of Israel in schools - and which plainly amounts to discrimination against any person expressing anti-Zionist views, despite it being a protected belief.
It candidly and despicably says Muslims disproportionately express antisemitic views, because they hold anti-Israel views. It says 45% of all British people are antisemitic because they believe Israel treats Palestinians like Nazis treated the Jews - such would make NAZA antisemitic too.
It recommends schools more actively involve Prevent - PREVENT! - where students express anti-Zionist or anti-Israel views.
Appallung, gutless, reckless and inflammatory stuff, none of which will withstand even cursory legal scrutiny. The Labour Together Project lives on in the muscle memory of this genocide-complicit Labour administration.

UPDATE:
The Conservative Party has suspended former election candidate and Turning Point UK CEO Jack Ross following Al Jazeera’s undercover investigation.
He was secretly filmed discussing prices for contract killings and other acts of violence and acting as the middleman.
The police now need to investigate these allegations.

The "immigration problem" narrative is massively overblown. And those who obsess over it under the guise of patriotism are professing a love for country, but without real substance.
86% of Reform voters told YouGov immigration is one of Britain's biggest issues. 5% named housing.
Understandably so, as on Reform's own news site, 71 items were about immigration, 3 about housing and 1 about the NHS.
They blame immigration for problems it did not cause. Take housing, for example. Reform says "Britain is full."
The reality is councils used to build more than 120,000 social homes a year. But in 2024-25, England built just 12,198 for social rent.
Net migration has fallen by three-quarters of a million since 2023. Yet immigration is still the issue they put above every other.
And when the figures show crime falling, they deny them. "London is in a state of collapse. Crime is out of control," Nigel Farage posted in 2025, the year London recorded its fewest homicides since 2014.
All the while, a home in England costs 7.6 times typical pay and 177,530 children live in temporary accommodation.
The political priorities of Britain's populist right, taken together with last year's Operation Raise the Colours, which put Union Jacks and St George's flags on lampposts across the country, show a love of country that doesn't extend much further than national symbols.

Brazen nonsense like this report was deployed to politically assassinate Corbyn.
No serious person should be in any doubt as to the fundamentally fraudulent nature of this.
No serious person could possibly pretend it was legitimate.
