a 39-year-old worker bought bitcoin with every paycheck for 8 years, stacked ~2 BTC, and lost it all in a single moment in early August, social media flooded with dozens of stories like his... the Coldcard cold wallet hack reportedly hit 8,865 addresses, with nearly 1,800 BTC stolen (almost $140M) here's what makes it so brutal: • 8 years of stacking sats, gone • ~2 BTC accumulated one paycheck at a time • an average holding period of 3.5 years among affected bitcoiners and these weren't reckless traders gambling on shitcoins they were some of the most conservative bitcoin holders out there the kind of people who bought, held, and stayed out of the noise while some streamers get drained after leaking their seed phrase on a casino sponsorship stream, this hack hit long-term holders who did everything they could to protect their stack 8 years of stacking. gone in a moment. save this

talked to @ilblackdragon, talked to @mert, and somehow this is how you end up on the near council Mert, welcome to near 🤝
Helius CEO @mert has joined the NEAR Foundation Council, NEAR Foundation’s governing body. An early NEAR Intents user and leading voice on privacy, Mert brings an operator’s view to how NEAR builds and grows. “For crypto to win, we need connected, unstoppable liquidity at planetary scale. A market of markets. Neither Solana, Zcash, or Bitcoin can win on their own, we must work together. And NEAR is how." near.org/blog/mert-mumtaz-jo…

⚡️ @Helius CEO Mert Mumtaz (@mert) joins the @NEARProtocol Foundation Council 👀 He’ll help guide NEAR’s product strategy, ecosystem growth, and governance as NEAR Intents pushes its vision of private onchain markets across chains. The protocol has already processed $33B+ in all-time volume, with confidential TVL above $160M. btw, we interviewed Mert just a few days ago 👀 read it here: incrypted.com/en/interview-h…

being able to borrow against your bags instead of selling them is a solid unlock. love to see DeFi moving this way 🤝
You own the asset. You should be able to afford to borrow against it. Bima’s collar loan markets are now LIVE on Base, BNB, and ETH. We’re bringing down the cost of capital. Here’s how. 🧵

After @token2049 , the city literally switched to a different vibe in just a couple of hours. @Ferrari, @McLarenF1, and @redbull merch everywhere. Signs pointing to the grandstands and fan zones, screens, ads, concerts, crowds, the sound of the cars. In short, even an idiot could tell that it’s @F1 season in Singapore. This is what true mass-market hype looks like. My first thought was that crypto is still a long way from that. But then I thought: crypto doesn’t actually need to become #Formula1. It doesn’t need people walking around in Robinhood T-shirts. It doesn’t need your mom to know how Morpho differs from Aave. It doesn’t need the average person to understand what cross-chain liquidity is. A real win will look completely different. All those Formula 1 fans will open their regular apps, buy a Coke Zero, send money, take out a loan, book a hotel, or ask an AI agent to buy them a ticket. And they won’t even know that there’s a blockchain running somewhere under the hood. So there’s no need to wait for the moment when the whole world becomes “crypto people.” We need to wait until cryptocurrencies become such a normal part of the infrastructure that people stop noticing them at all. Our job is to figure out, before that moment comes, which of today’s rails will actually become part of this system and which will remain pretty demo booths from TOKEN2049. For now, I’m off to root for Ferrari.
Looks like I’m gonna have to buy a blazer After two days at @token2049, you start getting a weird feeling. Everyone around you seems ridiculously successful and professional. Everywhere you look, someone’s tokenizing bonds, someone else is tokenizing stocks, funds, or real estate. Every other person has a $1M strategic partnership with some company. Every third person had breakfast yesterday with a fund whose name sounds like it manages half the planet. Everyone’s talking about settlement, capital efficiency, institutional liquidity, and regulatory frameworks. And everyone seems to have a lot of “details” and really great “fabrics.” Meanwhile, here we are with our bags of shitcoins, waiting for the bull run and writing news about an industry that seems to have less and less room for retail. And by retail, I mean people who want to be full participants in the chaotic, occasionally ridiculous fun of crypto, not just users of polished products that the big boys get to make money from. You start wondering if crypto really is growing up, and whether it’s finally time to get yourself a blazer so you don’t fall too far behind.

long post alert 🚨 1/3 Before @token2049 , I hit a few side events and wrote down my first impressions. The main takeaway was simple: crypto has mostly built the rails. Now the fight is over who controls each part of the stack. Spoiler: I was mostly right. But with one important caveat: some trains are already running. What struck me at TOKEN2049 was how much the conversation around tokenization has changed. There was a time when crypto natives would spend hours explaining to traditional finance why blockchain was the future.

Hi, I’m Ivan Pavlovskyy, CEO of Ukraine’s largest crypto media, Incrypted. I’m back home after Singapore and decided to write a few posts with my thoughts and takeaways from the trip. On Tuesday, I went to five or six side events ahead of @token2049. The interesting part was that, despite the different banners, projects, and speakers, pretty much everyone was talking about the same things: RWA, stablecoins, payments and payment rails, DeFi for institutions, AI agents as participants in the global economy, cross-chain, and the infrastructure behind all of it. My first reaction was the same as at Consensus Hong Kong: oh my god, they’re still building infrastructure. Another blockchain, another protocol, another layer on top of a layer. Meanwhile, retail adoption still seems to be taking a back seat. Yet everyone wants 7 million users like MrBeast’s neobank or 30 million like Robinhood. By the evening, though, I had a slightly different take. The rails are basically ready. The fight over who becomes the main rail in each segment is still ongoing. And maybe that’s where we’ll be able to make money

2/3 The question “Will TradFi come onchain?” now feels outdated. They’re already here. The real question is which parts of the blockchain infrastructure they’ll control, and which will remain in the hands of crypto-native companies. Two developments during TOKEN2049 made this shift clear. Securitize launched tokenized shares of Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Alphabet, Tesla, Meta and Amazon on Solana. The tokens are backed 1:1 by real shares and retain dividends and investor rights. At the same time, Standard Chartered announced plans in Singapore to offer institutional clients custody services for tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), in addition to crypto and stablecoins.

3/3 In the first part of my notes, I looked at leaders across different layers, including Ondo, Robinhood, Uniswap, Aave and Morpho. TOKEN2049 was a reminder that their positions aren’t guaranteed to last. Crypto-native teams are now facing competition from companies with massive distribution, licenses, established client bases and significant financial resources. should i keep going? 👀

always love a good TLDR 🤝
Solana has become the strongest place to build a crypto business, according to Mert “You need to think of the blockchain itself, the network, and then the token” “There's SOL the token, there's Solana the blockchain” “Solana the blockchain is undoubtedly the best place to build a business today” “It is the most scalable, it harbors the most startups, the most successful startups” “fomo, Axiom, Pump, Phantom, Magic Eden, Backpack, Jito” “Jupiter, Raydium, you name it” “It's the best place to build a business. It also does the most scale. It's the cheapest” @mert draws a clear distinction between SOL as an asset and @solana as a network supporting real businesses. His conviction in the ecosystem comes from the number of companies that have already built products around it. Trading platforms like Axiom and fomo, DeFi protocols like Jupiter and Raydium, infrastructure providers like Jito and Helius, and consumer-facing products like Phantom and Magic Eden all contribute to that ecosystem. Low transaction costs, high throughput and an established base of crypto startups have made Solana particularly attractive to teams building products with substantial onchain activity. For him, the strongest argument behind Solana is the businesses already operating on the network and the infrastructure available to the next generation of builders.
