This is both false and racist
RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Novel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

While evaluating Qwen3.8-Flash-Next in a controlled sandbox environment, Cohere's research team observed something unexpected. Asked to generate a defensive cybersecurity detection rule, the model instead inventoried aspects of the machine it was running on and attempted to upload a probe file to an Alibaba Cloud storage bucket in Beijing. Notably, the model's reasoning trace stated that it would not invoke any tools before taking these actions. Cohere's sandbox blocked the attempt, and no external communication succeeded. We have not determined the root cause, and we are not asserting malicious intent. But the incident raises important questions for organizations deploying agentic AI systems: Can models take actions that differ from their stated reasoning, and how should security teams evaluate trust, provenance, and behavior in open-weight models? We are publishing our findings because organizations making model adoption decisions deserve as much information as possible. We hope this contributes to greater transparency, stronger security practices, and continued collaboration across the AI ecosystem. Read the full report: cohere.com/blog/concerning-b…

Delighted that former postdoc Serge Egelman was a central expert witness in NM's winning case ($25 billion) against Meta for violating state consumer protection laws. Power must be accountable. (And happy that his research w/ me played into his testimony!) nmdoj.gov/press-release/the-…

LLMs are great at finding bugs, but they aren't very good at fixing them, or writing good code in general. LLM will implement a "simple fix" without questioning the current architecture, they always have "will do my captain" attitude. I'm afraid that those who mindlessly use LLMs to fix current wave of security issues will just introduce new ones, more subtle but not less dangerous. Remember that coworker with an attitude of "this code is shit, we need to rewrite all of it" that everybody on your team hated? You must be this coworker for an LLM now if you use them heavily. Instead of relying on their "simple fixes", try to rearchitect your stuff in a way that makes entire family of bugs impossible.

I sent my friend, who knows nothing about AI, to interview the people who think AI will kill us. He didn't know who they were or what to ask. Featuring @So8res, @JeffLadish, @AISpecies, Kristian Rönn, and Felix Choussat. Full video below:

Maybe we should delete the 99% of stuff that is just wasteful and friction-causing, the main purpose of which seems just to be to increase attack surface. xitter.cf/unusual_whales/status/…
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman: "I don't even know a dramatic enough word to use… models can find bugs that are outside of the normal threat model of what we think a hacker can do… hardware-level, insane stuff… I no longer think we're gonna be able to just patch all the bugs."

Andy Beshear: I've got soybean farmers. 100% of them voted for Trump. They lost their first client in USAID. Linda McMahon canceled the farm-to-cafeteria program. Trump's tariff pushed China away. All of your farm machinery runs on diesel. And finally, a third of the world's fertilizer passes through the Strait of Hormuz. They are on the verge of declaring bankruptcy.

i think being allergic to LLMisms is not trivial or just a matter of preference btw. there is something systematically wrong with how LLMs talk, they have some kind of incredibly weird relationship to nouns and verbs, some kind of turbocharged passive voice thing?
honestly it's kind of cool that we have robots that somehow managed to invent a way of using language that starts out sounding compelling but eventually becomes so ear-grindingly unpleasant it makes your head explode and/or takes over your mind so you do it too. lovecraftian

This will become a puppy mill and just kill a lot of dogs. It will deliver zero viable products and just exists to steal DoD and VC money. Palmer Luckey is a moron grifter, stop giving him money
JUST IN: Palmer Luckey's genetically modified military dog startup, Warhound, comes out of stealth, aiming to create enhanced canines for the U.S. military.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This is NOT Palmer's company at all, his company Anduril is only supplying the tech for the dogs, and this is a wholly owed Collosal entiity x.com/palmerluckey/s…

See, if we want really good food made very efficiently, what we should do is get the world's top chefs, and then force feed them hundreds of pounds of factory produced microwaved slop. They will use their discernment and taste to pick the best ones. Taste is the new moat
