ALT Luisa Freitas, Civil Engineer at ORR said: For all women who are contemplating a career in rail and engineering I would advise them not to hesitate and to not be put off by any preconceptions. Let your creativity, curiosity and imagination lead the way in what will be an extremely rewarding journey.

ALT Paul Frary, HM Inspector of Railways Senior Engineer at ORR said: I joined the railway industry in 1992 having served in the Royal Navy’s submarine service. I knew I wanted to further my education and better my engineering knowledge and experience in an industry that would offer me opportunities to develop. The railway offered that. The fantastic support and nurturing by peers and colleagues in the railway family can help anyone fulfill an ambition - and mind was to be a professional engineer. Young people looking for a career should look no further than what the railway has to offer.

ALT Phillip Smith, an ORR HM Inspector Assistant of Railways said: For me, like many people, when I came out of education in 2016 I did not really know what I wanted to do. My dad worked in the railway industry and this certainly helped me to think about becoming a part of it. The railway has given me lots of training and development and helped me to grow and take on new roles to further my career. There are also lots of different jobs that exist, and the railway gives you the opportunities to grow in an exciting industry.
