Yesterday, students, workers & neighbors in 50+ cities walked out of class and work to demand an immediate FREEZE on AI.
People showed up for different reasons. Some are worried about their jobs, others about rising electric bills, data centers coming to their towns, or what AI means for their kids. Right now a handful of Big Tech execs are making those decisions for everyone else, and we think the rest of us deserve a say.
We’re already planning what comes next. See photos and stories from the walkouts at FreezeAI.Now.
NOW IN MEMPHIS: Memphis City Council only let in HALF of the hundreds of community members rallying outside. With no overflow room option available, community members wheeled a tv outside to tune into the vote.
Students, organizers, and community members all over the Memphis area right now are standing up against their oppressive city council—that at one point, SILENCED community voices from speaking out against the data center build outs happening in their city.
Today, HUNDREDS pack inside #Memphis city hall to vote YES on a data center moratorium. NO MORE until the people get a say.

Fresno is organizing walkouts across Boston tomorrow.
AI is already reshaping how students learn, and nobody can tell us what it’s doing to our education in the long run. We shouldn’t have to find out the hard way. That’s why Fresno and dozens of other student leaders are walking out to demand a freeze on AI until we get a say and safeguards that protect us.
