#Bales2025FilmChallenge - postcard Memoir of a snail (2024) I love this movie. Letters and postcards are used as plot devices. It allows sadness & loneliness to exist without judgment, & treats them gently. It resonated with me honestly.  Thank you @ithrah69 for a fun month.

#Bales2025FilmChallenge (creator @bales1181) 31. Character Sends Postcards/Letters Casablanca (1942) One of the most memorable letters I've ever seen in a movie. . . so powerful - as if the letter is personifying Rick's sadness.

#Bales2025FilmChallenge - something tall   Frankenstein (2025) Del Toro is know for making sympathetic monsters so he was the perfect choice to adapt the Frankenstein novel in a faithful way. And his choice of 6’6” Elordi to play him proved to be a good one.  @ithrah69

Time to Play B-Sides: Only You/Situation If you were around in 1982 and going to clubs, then Upstairs at Eric's was the album for you. The debut disc from Yazoo pushed the boundaries of synth-pop. For those who weren't there, Yazoo was a duo made up of keyboardist Vince Clarke and singer @AlisonMoyet formed after Clarke left Depeche Mode. Only You is a beautiful ballad that Clarke had composed when he was still with Depeche Mode, but decided not to share it with his bandmates. It's a good thing because with Moyet's vocals, the song is an instant classic and a perfect song to showcase the band in its very first single. The thing is, the B-side may have been even more influential. The upbeat Situation would be played in dance clubs on both sides of the Atlantic, often mixed with other songs by Yazoo, like State Farm and Don't Go. If you are wondering about the band's name, here in the US and Canada, Yazoo had to become Yaz. First, there was another New Wave band with that name. Second, Clarke & Moyet were faced with a lawsuit from Yazoo Records. It's funny because I was living in Boston at the time Upstairs at Eric's came out, and everyone I knew thought it was to Boston Red Sox great Carl Yastrzemski, who retired from baseball after the 1983 season. As for the album's title, it came from producer E.C. Radcliffe's Blackwing Studios in London where the album was recorded.
