On International #DemocracyDay, we’re sending a clear message: democracy must deliver for working people.
Across the world, people are working harder while the cost of housing, food, energy and care keeps rising. At the same time, powerful interests are fuelling division, spreading misinformation and weakening our democratic rights.
But when working people organise, we have power.
Unions fight for democracy every day — at work, in society and across the world. We fight for our rights, our safety, our livelihoods and our dignity. And together, we win: the right to strike, safe workplaces, fair wages and a real voice in the decisions that shape our lives.

The ITUC calls on trade unions and international partners to stand with Palestinian workers as ongoing Israeli violations and restrictions continue to damage their main source of income: agriculture and tourism.
“Israel must end these restrictions and violations and comply with international law. International trade union solidarity will continue to support workers' rights and a just and lasting peace,” said ITUC General Secretary Luc Triangle.

For Palestinian workers, olive trees are jobs, income, history and dignity.
In the occupied West Bank, ITUC General Secretary Luc Triangle met Ahmad, a Palestinian olive farmer.
Ahmad described repeated attacks by Israeli settlers, including the theft of his tractor and physical violence.
Trade unions stand in solidarity with those defending their livelihoods and their right to remain on their land. 🍉✊

On the final day of the ITUC solidarity mission to Palestine, General Secretary Luc Triangle visited Palestinian farmers near Nablus to mark the beginning of the olive harvest season.
Palestinian farmers and agricultural workers face increasing restrictions on access to their land, including checkpoints and other restrictions on freedom of movement, as well as land confiscation and settlement expansion, accompanied by violence and intimidation by Israeli settlers. These violations threaten their safety, jobs and livelihoods.
The ITUC delegation also visited an aluminium factory and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company, where a collective agreement was signed with the workers’ union.
To conclude the mission, Luc Triangle met with PGFTU leaders from the West Bank and Gaza. The situation in Gaza was discussed: widespread destruction, unemployment now exceeding 85%, and the destruction of transport infrastructure are having a devastating impact on workers. The alarming rise in child labour is another consequence of the humanitarian and economic crisis.
The ITUC reaffirmed its solidarity with Palestinian workers and the importance of a strong and united Palestinian trade union movement.

Today in Ramallah, ITUC General Secretary Luc Triangle met with Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa and representatives of the Palestinian Authority to discuss the worsening economic and social situation, rising unemployment and the urgent need to defend Palestinian workers’ rights.
Thousands of Palestinian workers have been prevented from reaching their workplaces inside Israel for nearly three years, depriving them of vital income.
Increased international pressure is needed to end restrictions on workers’ freedom of movement, restore access to employment, ensure payment of outstanding wages and create new job opportunities.
The ITUC stressed the importance of strengthening workers’ rights, empowering women and investing in skills, technological development and employment opportunities for young Palestinians.
The ITUC reaffirmed its solidarity with its affiliate, the PGFTU, and with Palestinian workers, as well as its commitment to defending their rights and livelihoods, promoting decent work and supporting international efforts to improve their living and working conditions.

Hear from union organiser Melba Tampakan. She applied for a platform job herself to find out their working conditions. Now she's helping riders in the Philippines build their own union.
Her message is simple: flexibility should not mean insecurity.
Working people should not carry the burden while wealth concentrates at the top.
The ITUC stands in solidarity with DISK and its fight for economic justice and fair taxation in Türkiye.
“Workers in Türkiye are struggling to make ends meet not because the country lacks resources, but because income, wealth and the tax burden are being distributed in an increasingly unjust manner.” 🗣️ DİSK General President Arzu Çerkezoğlu

ITUC solidarity mission to Palestine continues in Jericho.
ITUC General Secretary Luc Triangle and PGFTU General Secretary Shaher Saed met with Governor Hussein Hamayel, Mayor Salem Ghrouf and Palestinian agricultural workers to hear directly about the daily challenges they face.
Workers described exploitation in Israeli settlements, lengthy delays at checkpoints and restrictions on movement that affect their daily lives and ability to earn a living. They also reported the deliberate destruction of olive trees that are a source of income for farmers.
These restrictions undermine the fragile Palestinian economy, particularly in agriculture and tourism, two essential sources of employment and income.
The delegation also visited Al Nakheel date factory, which employs around 1,000 workers, 70% of them women, illustrating the importance of agriculture in sustaining jobs and livelihoods in the region.

🇵🇸 ITUC solidarity mission to Palestine begins in Bethlehem.
ITUC General Secretary @luc_triangle met today with PGFTU General Secretary Shaher Saad, Palestinian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Hani Al-Hayek, Bethlehem Mayor Hanna Hanania, local authorities and tourism workers.
The visit included meetings with religious representatives at the Church of the Nativity and a visit to the Riwaya Museum, which both illustrate the importance of Palestinian cultural and religious heritage and the jobs it supports.
Hundreds of thousands of tourists and pilgrims are no longer visiting Bethlehem and its surrounding holy sites, contributing to the loss of an estimated 30,000 jobs. These sites are part of the world's cultural and religious heritage and must be accessible without restrictions.
In response to Israeli movement restrictions that undermine Palestinian tourism and workers' livelihoods, the ITUC, PGFTU, the Ministry and Bethlehem Municipality signed an Agreement on Principles and Solidarity to protect Christian religious and cultural heritage in Palestine, ensure safe access to holy sites and defend the rights of Palestinian tourism workers.
This World day for decent work #WDDW26, young trade unionists like Sarafina are calling for every young worker to know their rights from day one.
✊️ Unions have a vital role to play in informing, organising and empowering young workers — so they can speak up, stand together and demand decent work.
