Canadian secularization, despite its name, is not just the successful child of the secular world but can also be seen as the unintended offspring of the fragmented Canadian Christian one. - Dr James Robertson, Overlooked @NewLeafNetwork

A PRAYER FOR THE UKRAINE. (lightly adapted from the book "Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals", p. 555) Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world. Amen. Have mercy on us. Grant us peace. For the unbearable toil of our sinful world, we plead for remission.

For the terror of absence from our beloved ones who have lost their lives, we plead for your comfort. For the scandalous presence of death in your creation, we plead for the resurrection. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world. Have mercy on us. Grant us peace.

Come, Holy Spirit, and heal all that is broken in our lives, in our streets, in our cities, in our nations, in our alliances, and in our world. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Canada Day has always held a danger/invitation. Danger: the undertow of self-justifying lies, agnosia, and violence that our national identity depends on. Invitation: prayerfully imagine what a healed and whole Canada might look like - one that is truly "glorious and free."

Sometimes I wake up ready to seize the day. Other times I wake up ready to cease the day. What kind of day are you having?
The church in Canada is at a "hinge point." We can choose business as usual or we can change who we are. We can choose to ignore what is going on or we can choose to engage.

This month at the @NewLeafNetwork - Learning Centre has been such a gift. It has given me a community to lament with and a community that is conspiring for change in the Canadian church. newleafnetwork.ca/learning-c…
