I'm spending a month looking for my next company: one startup idea a day, each from a different corner of New York.
One hour walk. One new neighbourhood. One (very) raw idea.
Tear them apart. Tell me where to go next. And if you're in NYC building, let's talk! – at New York, USA
Most of us have told AI something we'd never post. Idea: an on-device companion that nudges you before you hand chatbots or agents more than you meant to: data, access, even your thinking. On-device ML and security folks in NYC: let's talk. Day 9, from NoHo. #startupidea #buildinpublic #oneaday

Now do you get it? Trump is going to double down on supporting Putin, no matter what. Its his only real priority. wsj.com/politics/elections/t…

The story keeps getting crazier. To recap everything that has been reported so far:
- The US intelligence community discovered that Jensen Huang, the CEO of the largest company in the world, was sleeping with Alice Huang, a Chinese spy and an executive at Megaspeed. (FT)
- Multiple independent investigations have concluded that Megaspeed is likely a Chinese cutout, which helps Chinese companies access AI chips or circumvent export controls. (NYT and Bloomberg)
- The US intelligence community also concluded that Alice Huang’s goal was to convince Jensen to lobby the U.S. government to loosen export controls on advanced AI chips. (NYT)
- The intelligence community relayed this information to “a small group of top US government officials” earlier this year. (FT)
- Over the last year, Jensen Huang has repeatedly lobbied the U.S. government to loosen export controls on advanced chips. @BISgov has done so, not only by permitting the export of H200 chips to China, but also not enforcing export controls that would have required a license for exports of the most advanced Blackwell chips to Megaspeed and Southeast Asia.
- Although @CommerceGov leadership was presumably briefed on this information by the U.S. intelligence community, @BISgov has taken no actions to tighten controls on Megaspeed or Southeast Asia.
- Megaspeed remains a preferred cloud partner of Nvidia, and continues to receive Nvidia Blackwell chips despite employing a Chinese spy who reportedly is romantically engaged with the CEO of Nvidia.
- Tens of billions of dollars worth of AI chips have been exported to Southeast Asia this year alone, and Malaysia and Singapore are now two of the four largest importers of AI chips in the world.
What is going on here??? We need answers. The question of who gets the most advanced AI chips in the world is literally the defining strategic question of our time. And not only does it seem like the MSS may be directly influencing the debate on export controls in the United States, but also @CommerceGov is refusing to listen to the warnings of the IC on this issue. What is a POSSIBLE good explanation for why Megaspeed is still receiving chips? Why is there not a license requirement for AI chip shipments to all of Southeast Asia? This is beyond strange at this point.
The fallout from this story will be massive. Obviously, the motivations underpinning Nvidia’s policy views opposing export controls must now all be questioned. But also, how did @BISgov sit on this information and has still taken no actions? We need answers.
US intelligence agencies believe @Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang had romantic relationship with alleged Chinese spy

Once upon a time I spent time with someone who spent time under the same roof of Stephen Miller. Him being the new Chief of Staff is wonderful news for the Democrats, and appalling news for the US. Even with the new checks and balances. It will repel a lot of potentially well-meaning people away from the centers of executive power.
Your bag spends rush hour on the dirtiest floor in NYC. Day 8 idea: a pocket hook that extends so it hovers just above the floor anywhere, eventually built into backpack straps. Would you pay $30 for this? Standalone product or just a novel feature?
Finally, the mystery gets resolved. The next mystery is determining how old the bay leaves sitting on the supermarket shelf are... because there isn't the slightest indication written on my package 😅

James Talarico responds to AOC calling woke 1.0 crazy, policing people's language is performative politics, and it stops you from building a coalition
“I do think that there was a rise in performative politics in people who are more concerned about using the right words, usually determined by academia”
“Those are unifying values that we all agree on.”
“But when you start policing people's language, when you start judging people because they're not up on the right terminology, you're no longer building a coalition to address those real problems”
“you're performing a kind of politics that's about your own intellectual and emotional needs and not about actually making change.”

Parents don't hand kids iPads because they're bad parents. They just run out of options, and life is hard enough. Idea #7: PlayCrate, a backpack that opens into a self-contained playground. On any restaurant table or car seat. Toy designers and NYC parents alike... how does this land?

In Fahrenheit 451, the chief book-burner, Captain Beatty, describes how reading became obsolete because the public demanded increasingly fast-paced entertainments, and those entertainments slowly corroded their ability to think. “Books cut shorter. Condensations. Digests, tabloids. Everything boils down to the gag, the snap ending. Classics cut to fit fifteen-minute radio shows, then cut again to fill a two-minute book column … Many were those whose sole knowledge of Hamlet was a one-page digest in a book that claimed, ‘Now at last you can read all the classics.’ … School is shortened, discipline relaxed, philosophies, histories, languages dropped, English and spelling gradually neglected, finally almost completely ignored. Life is immediate, the job counts, pleasure lies all about after work. Why learn anything save pressing buttons, pulling switches?”
In this passage Ray Bradbury foretells the intellectual hollowing out of the working class, the advent of AI-generated “summaries” of classic novels, the attention-frying culture of short-form video, the relaxation of educational standards into non-existence. All of this in a book published in 1953.

Idea #6: an artist guides you over a few weeks to turn a transition into a real piece of art.
You don't think your way to a new direction. You make it.

Listened to James Talarico’s victory speech.
This is the USA as I remember it. There is hope for a true change, away from this rampant division between Democrats and Republicans, which is only helping the enemies of the USA and West altogether.
Well done, Texas!
Well, it's not that they haven't managed to in the past, but it's certainly a breath of fresh air to see them taking the hit. So much money burnt down, for so little.
Dems win both. Without calling them all decent (not all are), I'd say... decency finally has a chance.
Nonprofits use AI agents to research donors. Donors have nothing working for them.
Day 5: a giving agent for major donors. Text it, it tracks your impact and flags urgent funding gaps.

One of the extraordinary things about US elections – even outside the presidential cycle - is that the world eagerly watches. Having lived for many years overseas, I had so many discussions with shopkeepers, Taxi drivers, ordinary folks in the Middle East and Europe, who actually understood that even US congressional elections matter. To them too, not just us. So here we are once again. With an enormously consequential election. And the world eagerly watches. What way will the US turn? A big check on Trump’s power? Or more MAGA isolationism? Or a mix of both…In 24 hours, we will all know.
