In all this hubbub about small towns, and big city Texas (and Marylander) statewide political leaders trying to crush them— it’s probably time to start telling the stories of Hambriston, Texas.

Talking school voucher polls over coffee at Vincent’s Pharmacy, Cleve Wiley made an unusually good point.
“If we run law by polls like the gov wants, there’d be no Vincent’s cause the school wudn’t ‘ve ever desegregated and we’d ‘a hung Jerry Jones for what he done to Landry…

LOVE this idea. It has always seemed weird to me that something like this didn’t already exist. Texas is both SO big and also SO small.
I’m 🤔 about doing a fun Garrison Keillor Lake Wobegon-like podcast based on Gov Abbott’s fictional Hambriston—and #txlege neglect of rural TX…
“…and that’s the news from Hambriston, where the people are strong, the hospital is gone, and the school deficit is above average.”

The Bier Barn is kinda famous now since Mr. Garth Brooks signed that urinal the other night. Historical Hambriston Society of Nosey Women wants to gate off the stall and make it a unisex restroom.
Worse things've happened in there. But Bruno's pretty chapped bout it.

Cormac McCarthy has passed away at the age of 89. His border trilogy is one of the greatest things ever written about Texas. Indeed, I read "All the Pretty Horses" about once per year. After all, there's nobody else who writes like this:
"That night he dreamt of horses in a field on a high plain where the spring rains had brought up the grass and the wild flowers out of the ground and the flowers ran all blue and yellow far as the eye could see and in the dream he was among the horses running and in the dream he himself could run with the horses and they coursed the young mares and fillies over the plain where their rich bay and their rich chestnut colors shone in the sun and the young colts ran with their dams and trampled down the flowers in a haze of pollen that hung in the sun like powdered gold and they ran he and the horses out along the high mesas where the ground resounded under their running hooves and they flowed and changed and ran and their manes and tails blew off of them like spume and there was nothing else at all in that high world and they moved all of them in a resonance that was like a music among them and they were none of them afraid horse nor colt nor mare and they ran in that resonance which is the world itself and which cannot be spoken but only praised."

Mr. Rogers made a courageous decision to defy the racial segregation norms of 1969 by extending an invitation to Officer Clemmons to join him in cooling their feet in a shared pool. At that time, pools in America were strictly segregated, and Black individuals faced the threat of police intervention if they attempted to enter white-only pools. Recognizing the injustice, Mr. Rogers took a stand by featuring Officer Clemmons on his show. It is worth noting that Officer Clemmons also faced additional challenges as a homosexual, which only became public knowledge years later. Mr. Rogers, being a compassionate individual, advised Clemmons to keep his sexuality private to protect him from potential harm caused by homophobia. It is important to highlight that Mr. Rogers, as a devout Christian, regarded the act of washing someone's feet as a gesture of respect and hospitality within Christian culture. This remarkable story exemplifies Mr. Rogers' unwavering dedication to goodness and kindness in the world.

There is no way to not hurt rural pub schools with ESA vouchers. Eventually the hold harmless money runs out and the public money for pub schools diminishes as the State supports 2 systems. Listen to Luke Mayville of Reclaim Idaho about Achilles Heel of ESA vouchers. @jayleeson
