Just last month, DoorDash couldn’t seem to find the money to pay their deliveristas — until our administration forced them to give back $131M+ in stolen wages and penalties. This week, they’ve managed to find $17 billion to acquire one of their main competitors. Corporate consolidation means higher prices, harsher exploitation, and greater economic inequality for New Yorkers. We’ve stood up to these giants before. That doesn’t stop now.

One has to ask why utilities oppose increasing transmission capacity by 30%...
Resources For the Future has released its modeling on the Senate permitting bill. Top findings: - Increase transmission capacity by 30% by 2041 - Would facilitate 60GW of clean energy in 2028 - Reduce carbon emissions by 1.8 gigatonnes through 2041 rff.org/publications/issue-b…

Now compare this to the beauty of Mexico’s café de olla or Colombia’s café tinto, traditional regional flavored coffees made by simply brewing the beans with cinnamon, maybe orange peel or whole allspice or star anise 🤤
Flavored coffee is sprayed with flavoring after roasting. The solvent that carries the flavor is not listed on the ingredient statement. Dunkin' French Vanilla reads coffee, natural and artificial flavor. New England Hazelnut Creme reads 100% Arabica coffee, natural and artificial flavors. Community Pecan Praline, same two lines. What those lines leave out is the spray. The roasted beans tumble in a mixer while liquid flavor gets sprayed on, about 3 pounds of flavor for every 100 pounds of coffee, and that liquid is mostly propylene glycol, a synthetic solvent that carries the flavor oils on to the bean. A supplier's spec sheet for a pecan coffee flavor reads propylene glycol and natural and artificial flavor, use at 3%. It stays off the bag because FDA treats the solvent inside a flavor as part of the flavor. Food grade propylene glycol is allowed in flavorings up to 97%, FDA lists it as safe, and a small amount is used. A few roasters flavor with alcohol or glycerin instead and print no propylene glycol on the bag.

Trump says he's moving wind farms through Pentagon approvals again. It's an ostensible show of good faith to get a permitting deal done, nevermind that a court also ordered it. But so far, the agency has only advanced existing projects seeking repowering. heatmap.news/plus/the-fight/…

JD Vance on ranked choice voting: "I don't understand it. It seems to me that you have an election, the person who wins the most votes should win. That seems to be not what happens with ranked choice voting. The fact that it's so confusing to a person who pays pretty close attention to politics I think suggests we should do our elections in, like, the normal way."

This is the correct take — let’s work together toward fixes that could be won rather than attack each other for weighting the value of the inherent trade-offs differently
There are many ways I think BAAJA could be improved to make it a better bill from an environmentalist perspective. The operative question is how many, and which, of those improvements we can get GOP negotiators (plus Trump) to agree to, without sinking the deal. How interested is everybody involved in getting to a “yes”?

Modeling permitting reform is devilishly hard. Take any models as indicative and uncertain. But the folks at @RFF are some of the most careful modelers and honest brokers out there.
