Looking forward to presenting today about the history of this Soviet torpedo from the @canwarmuseum's collection -- as well as other Soviet naval weapons brought to Canada from North Korea via Japan in 1951 -- at the 33rd Canadian Military History Colloquium at @studyofcanada.

ALT Colour photograph of large silver torpedo with red warhead on left. Green tent and Oerlikon gun with shield in left background. Booth with signal flags in right background. Stone building with windows in far background. Title at bottom: “No information was given concerning the origin of this torpedo”: A Soviet weapon at the Canadian War Museum.
Getting ready for the first day of the @NASOH_History conference, meeting aboard the ferry boat Berkeley, part of the collection of @sdmaritime. Definitely a distinctive conference venue!

Today is the CRNS-SCRN annual conference! I'll (@slopclothes) be tweeting along with today's four panels so follow along here for today's proceedings.
Stopped at the #Canso Causeway to take some photographs of the swing bridge, only to get an unplanned front-row seat to catch it in action — seen here closing.
Coming up in a little over a month's time - the annual Canadian Nautical Research Society conference:

Since today's #VimyRidgeDay, I thought I’d share the experiences of one #VimyRidge casualty that I came across during other research: 104632 Private Frank Louis Arnold, husband of Daisy Ellen Arnold.

While these cards are generally postwar, and go up to the early 1960s, they do contain some entries from the war or that started in wartime, such as Arnold’s. His non-standard card with its multiple notations caught my attention, as did the details in his personnel file.

Fortunately, there are also photographs of Frank Louis Arnold to go with his story. They add his face to his name and his experiences, to share on this #VimyRidgeDay.
