The rest of us shouldn't believe Microsoft either.
Reading Cory Doctorow's Enshittification "When ICC issued a warrant for Netanyahu's arrest ... Microsoft turned off the court's Outlook service. Without warning the justices lost their email, their documents, their calendars, their address books... " Microsoft claims this was a coincidence. Doctorow does not believe them

Do 1000s and 1000s of Amharas massacred by Oromo extremists since 2018 break your heart as well or nah? xitter.cf/neby_G/status/21153350…
This is heartbreaking. A young man, a recent graduate and the eldest in his family, was stabbed to death just outside Bahir Dar. He was a faithful witness to the gospel. He died doing what he loved. May God comfort his family and all who mourn him.

"Hello, I'm a bootlicker who supports a regime that openly discriminates against Black people, and I'd like to talk to all of you in a condescending, insulting way. Our approach is to treat Africans like criminals because according to my boss, you live in a 'shithole country.' "
"My message to you is simple: use your visa correctly, and we welcome you.  If you or your family have misused visas in the past, or attempt to misuse one, you should not expect a new one.  Remember, a visa is a privilege, not a right.  We take our immigration laws seriously, and so should you," says Ambassador Massinga on using your U.S. visa the right way. #messagefromtheambassador

A high school girl in Mexico just won a gold medal for putting out fires with a speaker. It plays one deep, low hum and the flames die in about 5 seconds. DARPA tried the same idea back in 2012 with a rig so big and clunky they never took it any further, and hers runs on a 12-volt battery and a speaker she can carry around. Sound is just air being pushed back and forth. A low note at 30 hertz means the air around the flame is flipping direction 30 times every second. Flames only exist in a thin layer where fuel vapor mixes with oxygen. Shake that layer hard enough and it keeps getting stretched thinner, the heat gets pulled away faster than the flame can make more, and eventually the flame rips right off the fuel. Whatever tears off is too cool to keep burning, so it just goes out. DARPA's report put a number on how little it takes. Once the air at the flame is moving about half a meter per second, which is barely a breeze, the flame goes out, and pretty much any pitch can get there if you crank the power high enough. Low notes just get you there way cheaper, because a speaker moves a lot more air on each push when the pitch is low. Two engineering students at George Mason figured this out by trial and error in 2015. They started with super high pitches, 20,000 to 30,000 hertz, and all the flames did was shiver. It only worked once they dropped down to 30 to 60 hertz, which is basically the bass on a hip-hop track. Ángela Karime's build is a 12-volt battery, a frequency generator, an amplifier and a speaker, tuned to 30 hertz. She named it Vortex Tech and talks about it shooting out little rings of air, and that's real physics. When loud, low sound gets pushed through a narrow opening, the air curls up into rings like a smoke ring, and those rings carry a puff of air way farther than the sound would get on its own. In her tests it put out small flames from about 2 meters away. She went through five prototypes and over 100 tests in about a year, and she says it's put out burning wood, flammable liquids, electronics and cooking oil. The cooking oil one is a big deal. Throw water on a grease fire and it flashes into steam and flings burning oil all over your kitchen, which is exactly the kind of fire where you'd want something that doesn't put anything into the pan. Now, sound can't cool anything down, so a big fire sitting on red-hot fuel can come right back the second the speaker shuts off. The George Mason guys worried about the same thing in 2015, and it's why this is still a prototype for small flames and the red extinguisher under your sink isn't going anywhere yet. Space might end up being where this matters first. Up there water floats off in blobs, while sound works the same with or without gravity, and acoustics researchers have already published experiments on fighting fires with sound on spacecraft. She's still in high school, and she's already working on a version that spots a fire and puts it out by itself. The gold in Indonesia also came with a special award that gets her into another international competition.

You all need to understand that there is a well-funded movement to kill Wikipedia as an institution. The dream of an internet that provided universal access to knowledge was a mirage. It threatened too many powerful people, so now we have AI summaries and illiteracy.
Can we also talk about how Wikipedia entries are no longer at the top of a search 😭

Yes, THAT'S what matters -- reputation. 🤦‍♂️ Not the victims, not the families being persecuted. Exactly the thinking we've all come to expect from retired US diplomat douchebags. Also, he makes it sound like this has just started. It's been going on FOR YEARS. 🙄
Ethiopia has enough internal problems without adding major religious conflict to the list. Would be awful for country's reputation to have inter-religious fighting compared to Nigeria's historic Muslim herder-on-Christian farmer violence. Stop it! africanews.com/2026/10/27/et…

One of the highlights of my time in Jordan was visiting UNWRA archives and examining the index cards and other records of the 750,000 Palestinians kicked off their land at the Nakba in 1948. They used to be kept in Gaza and were airlifted out at the beginning of the genocide- Israel has destroyed all the archives that remained. They form the best evidence for some form of reparations in the future and are now being scanned and digitalised

.@HouseForeignGOP glad that you showed your concern, please check @GPEthiopia, @AAA_Amhara @AmericaEthiopia and other independent OSINT sources that are solely established to be a voice for the voiceless people in Ethiopia, these are civic organizations that are run on a volunteer basis supported by the concerned Ethiopian diasporas. Cross checking your information with such sources that have a firm connection with the victims on the ground ensures that media that had known biases in the past will not control how such human rights incidents are reported going forward. Time and again Addis Standard has injected biased information regarding either victims or perpetrators of such attacks against ethnic Amharas and Orthodox Christians in Ethiopia in the past. I am grateful that they are reporting on the incident, but it is important that the narrative around these incidents is not maneuvered or controlled in a such a way that will deter victims from getting justice and for perpetrators to get unwarranted cover due to reporting that lacks clarity regarding perpetrators while the information already exists from what survivors and other data indicate. @JemalCountess @jeffpropulsion @_hudsonc @JMeservey @NEDemocracy @IngrahamAngle @RealCandaceO @OrthodoxyNews @ChristianEmerg1 @amanpour @ocptweets @HouseForeign
The continued targeted attacks against Christians in Ethiopia are completely unacceptable. All parties to the conflict need to take steps to ensure that Christians and all people of faith are protected from this violence and that the perpetrators are punished.

We also want to remind our listeners that Gaza has for many centuries been a centre of learning and high culture; was once famous for its wine, its pleasures and its Dionysian festivals; that it is a place of great wealth as the terminus of the Arabian incense route; and a city where people have lived and loved for many millennia.

So, why is it that the BBC now puts "massacre" in quotes for victims in Oromia, but it didn't hesitate to declare massacres as hard facts if the news came from the TPLF in 2021?

Cyclists are continuing to ride along the newly pedestrianised section of Oxford Street, despite being asked to dismount. Around seven security staff have been stationed near Oxford Circus, calling out to cyclists to get off their bikes, with mixed success. Absolutely bang-on right. And those early years of the pandemic were truly horrible in N. America for the climate of fear, paranoia, grief and gov'ts turning their backs and doing next to nothing.
Andrew Scott on why it’s important to tackle topics like the AIDS crisis in cinema: “It troubles me a little bit because people perhaps don’t want to go back to a time that was incredibly difficult for gay people. I think that sometimes comes from a place of shame … but the shame does not lie with the gay people.”

YES!!!! And please keep it that way. In fact, how about doing the same for parts of Charing Cross Road?
I've always believed Oxford Street could be so much more than a road. Today we begin a new chapter as the nation’s high street goes traffic free, creating a place where people can spend time, enjoy the atmosphere and experience the very best of our city.

Benjamin Moser, author of Anti-Zionism: A Jewish History, told Rashid Khalidi that his 80-year-old mother, who had all but called him a Hamas member, apologized after reading his book: “I’m ashamed I ever said I was a Zionist.” His book traces Jewish opposition to Zionism over the past century and challenges their exclusion in discussions over Palestine. “No, you don’t get to set the rules anymore. We’re setting the rules now,” Moser said. Khalidi added that he had never seen so many people change their views so rapidly, noting that major publishers are now embracing books on Palestine that would have been virtually unpublishable just three or four years ago.
