If you hear anything about the ~skills gap~ being the reason for poor labor market outcomes *in a pandemic*, first check out this review of the research on skill-biased technical change and labor market power:

Final version using geom_tile (😉@jakekaupp). ggpattern was way easier than I thought it would be, thanks @coolbutuseless!

I had thought of reproducing the original and when @hadleywickham asked, I just had to do it :)
Can't figure out how to use ggpattern for the blue shirt, probably not going to work since I used geom_segment.

we're a frozen meat brand posting ads inevitably made to misdirect people and generate sales, so this is peak irony, but hey we live in a society so please make informed decisions to the best of your ability and don't let anecdotes dictate your worldview ok

therapist: and what do we do when we're overwhelmed by having to learn a challenging new software package?
me: avoid feelings of inadequacy by implementing my own package from scratch even though it will take me longer and objectively not be as good?

How has the world changed? This 🧵 compiles many of my plots on, eg., child mortality, fertility, GDP, women's education, and life expectancy. Thanks to @Gapminder for the data! #rstats
First, child mortality has dropped precipitously all over the world. #GoodNewsGraphs (1/N)

Friendly reminder that if you want to use your figures again and don't want to hand copyright over to a journal:
1. Share the figure with a CC0 license before you submit, effectively releasing the figure into the public domain.
2. That's it, you can always use the figure now.

In proofs, copy editor wrote, for a ref with 217 authors:
"Don't abbreviate authors with et al.—journal style requires to spell out all names."
And because I'm an adult I did the grownup thing: Spelled out 217 names, & also added a ref to the Higg's Boson paper.

These are made by @jenitive_case. I *think* I got the first one of this variety; she'll even make them in your IDE's color scheme!

I wrote about something that’s been weighing on me lately: how weird it is to be living through history’s only accurate prediction about the end of the world — and how hard it is to just go about your life during the actual for real end times

me, a data scientist: *softly* I know
data: no you don't. it’s not your fault
me: *serious* I know
data: listen to me. it’s not your fault
