Before I was even pregnant, I asked my mom & dad for advice from raising me and my brother... This is what they told me, maybe you'll find it useful too: 1. Your kids are not your friends. They’re yours to safeguard and support, but set rules. Biggest problem with most kids in our generation, their parents wanted to be liked not respected. 2. Psy ops are underrated. My mom had this line for whenever I got into trouble. She’d say, “When I ask you a question like this, I already know the answer. I am giving you a chance to come clean...” At which point I’d sing like a canary because I’m a scaredy cat. I found out today she rarely knew the answers. Brilliant and maniacal. 3. Always on the same page. My mom and dad rarely fought in front of my brother and I. They would never go back on the word of the other. United front to deal with us mini terrorists. 4. Make time. My dad had this silly line that is actually not silly: “You can make money, you can make a cake, but you can’t make time.” So they made allllll the time for us. 5. Four chairs. We have these four chairs in our living room, no tv. Growing up, we’d sit and debate and talk for hours. Politics. Opinions. Our days. Only thing not allowed was an opinion you couldn’t defend unemotionally. We still do this today. 6. Mi Sangre mi siempre. They’d always say, blood comes first. They meant it. I hired my brother, my dad, my mom, my cousin at times. We stick together and we may fight like hell but never in front of others. 7. Once you decide, you don’t quit. We could play any sport or instrument BUT if we committed we had to play the full year all out. No 3 lessons and quit. Taught us to choose thoughtfully and keep going even when it hurt. 8. Always call. They still pick up the phone nearly every time it’s family. My dad in a meeting will pause to answer my mom. My husband taught me this too, and I try to do the same. If they’re your first priority this is an easy way to prove it. 9. You’re not a princess, you’re a president. My dad always used to say that line. He told me this week that I lived up to it. Gutted me. He taught us we didn’t need to be saved, instead we could save ourselves and help others. 10. Hug often and seriously. If you’ve ever hugged my parents, they mean it when they do it. Such a simple, free gesture. My mom always gives you a hug and says vaya con dios... go with God. How can you not do big things with parents that hold you like that? Just some lessons from parents I happen to think are some of the best in the world. Moms & dads everywhere, I'm in awe of you. Hardest job I've ever seen. Hope I'm half as good at it as my parents were with us.

DeltaOne on this @delta flight sucks. There’s just no better way to say it - small, dated, uncomfortable, but at least it’s really expensive with shitty wifi.

Capitalism is the legal protection of your right to freely pursue your own happiness by any means that doesn’t violate another individual’s equal right to do the same. Socialism reverses the principle: it turns another person’s life, labor, and property into an entitlement to be pursued through political force. Capitalism says: pursue what makes you happy, but earn it. Socialism says: if someone else has what you want, acquire political power and make them surrender it. One protects the pursuit of happiness. The other mistakes redistribution for its achievement.

A proper democracy isn’t 51% choosing a government that forces the other 49% to obey whatever the majority demands in the name of the “greater good.” That’s majoritarian rule. Democracy should determine who administers a government constitutionally bound to protect individual rights, not who gets permission to violate them. You vote for the referee, not for permission to rewrite everyone else’s rights.

Elon has created $3 trillion of value with his companies and pays the salaries of 150,000 people. Bernie helped create $36 trillion of debt with his time in Congress and pays the salaries of 0 people. Elon’s wealth is not the problem, Bernie’s communist policies are. Simple.

🇺🇸 My family arrived in New York City in April 1976, fifty years ago, during our country's bicentennial celebration. I sang "America the Beautiful" and recited the Pledge of Allegiance before I was fluent in English. We became naturalized citizens as soon as we were eligible. This country, with its generous people and the world's enviable civil rights, provided us with the opportunity to build a safe, comfortable, and happy life. I am grateful to call the United States of America my home. Happy 250th, America!🇺🇸

Notice the opening. "When we gain power." Not when we are trusted to restore liberty to the individual, not when we earn the right to protect a free people, but when we gain power. That is how a man thinks who sees government as a weapon to wield, not a servant to restrain. Then read the method: "through executive action." He proposes to reshape the entire labor economy by decree, bypassing Congress, the branch that actually makes law. That is not a republic or even a democracy. It is rule by pen, the tool of a man who cannot win the argument and so skips the legislature entirely. And the substance is force. "Tie federal contracts to union recognition" means using the taxpayer's money to coerce workers and employers into an arrangement they never chose. @RoKhanna calls it standing up for the working class. It is standing on their necks and calling it help. A free man does not need you to "gain power" over him. He needs someone to defend his right to his own life which means to leave him free to produce and trade and keep what he earns.
When we gain power, Democrats must use the government not to enrich billionaires or politicians, but to stand up for the working class. FDR tied federal contracts to union recognition. Union density soared. We must dramatically increase good union jobs through executive action.

Disappointed to see this using the “conservative pounce” formulation. I’m Gen X. All of us, including liberals like me, were there when we watched a nation filled with brilliant people put its best minds to making socialism work. It was an unparalleled disaster — not just economically, but environmentally, and certainly from a human rights perspective as well. The fact that we now have people on both the right and the left who think Lenin was on to something, or that “real socialism has never been tried,” is mind-blowing. It represents a massive generational failure of our K–PhD system. They didn’t learn the history, philosophy, or economics that would have prevented them from falling for the same midwittery that too many of our grandparents fell for. Sure, it sounds nice. Utopia always does. But it was a colossal disaster that we must not repeat. So no, Axios. The news isn’t that the GOP is sounding the alarm. It’s that more genuine liberals aren’t.

America’s ruling class has performed another miracle. They took the most basic truths in human civilization ... crime needs punishment, borders need enforcement, schools should teach, welfare should be temporary, families matter, merit matters, and taxpayers should not be looted by professional parasites ... and somehow rebranded all of that as “extremism.” Incredible work, really. Apparently, a “compassionate” society is one where the violent repeat offender gets another chance, the victim gets a candlelight vigil, the taxpayer gets the bill, the schoolkid gets passed along illiterate, the fraudster gets a grant, the NGO gets another contract, the illegal alien gets services, and the working American gets told to shut up and be more inclusive. What a beautiful system. Soft justice did not stay in the courtroom. It metastasized. It became soft borders, soft schools, soft parenting, soft welfare, soft standards, soft men, and soft bureaucrats explaining why every obvious solution is “too harsh.” Lock up predators? Cruel. Deport illegals? Hateful. End generational welfare? Lacking empathy. Punish fraud? Complicated. Restore merit? Problematic. Teach kids to read? Probably colonialism by Tuesday. A serious country protects the innocent from the guilty. A decaying country protects the guilty from consequences and makes the innocent finance the experiment. That’s America’s real crisis. Not poverty. Not “root causes.” Not another fake expert panel. Consequences. We stopped imposing them on the people destroying the country, so now the country imposes them on everyone else. Islamophobia is a made up term that uses the West's suicidal empathy to shut off its survival instinct. If a religion seeks to eradicate your heritage, culture, society, civilization, and religion, then it is perfectly RATIONAL to be phobic of its intrusion into your societies.

Every society has two broad groups: Those trying to build, produce, save, invest, and trade. And those trying to live off the efforts of the first group. The capitalist class is the working class. The socialist class is the work avoidance class.

You scrimped and saved. You took the risk of quitting a good job to start a company. During the early years, you postponed vacations, kids, all sorts of things. You lived with the uncertainty, the feast-ajd-famine, the govt's gut punches like covid lockdown. In the end, you have a very valuable business. But socialists want to tax you based on its value (which is not cash in hand), prevent you from leaving it to your kids, etc. What argument do you make: 1 this is *MINE*, I created it 2 private ownership isn't perfect but it's the best way to harness entrepreneurial energy for the greatest good ??

"Fair share" - the phrase every looter uses when he wants what he didn't earn. You call them "oligarchs" while proposing to seize 5% of their wealth by force. Who is the one wielding state power here, Senator? You just proposed a moratorium on AI data centers - literally trying to freeze the most productive technology of our era. How many jobs, how much wealth, how much human progress does YOUR agenda cost Americans? No one tallies that bill. California's billionaires are already fleeing to Nevada. The Hoover Institution estimates this tax will cost the state $25 billion net. You would destroy the golden goose and then call it justice while ignoring the price paid in blood, sweat and tears because of your policies. "The people want it" - 54% voting to confiscate another man's property doesn't make it right. Two wolves and a sheep voting on dinner is not moral governance. Rights are not subject to majority rule. That is why we are a republic. You have spent decades producing nothing, creating nothing, building nothing - while demanding an ever-larger share of what others build. That is not fairness. It is the plunder of a man who knows too little.

NYT frames this as if USAID employees had a quasi-property right to high-paying, taxpayer-funded jobs. In reality, this tells a darker story—we spent half-a-century debt-financing a managerial class of Leftists whose only qualifications were ideological.
"Sheryl Cowan, 57, was making $272,000 a year as a senior VP at a U.S.A.I.D.-funded nonprofit when she was let go at the end of March 2025. Last month she had an online interview for a $19-an-hour job managing a Penzeys Spices store in Falls Church, Va." nytimes.com/2026/04/21/us/po…
