Say hello to (and follow!) my new Bot, released into the wild today. It tweets out crowd-sourced noteworthy critical care/anaesthesia/acute/emergency medicine trials and reviews twice a day into your feed: @OLS_Bot (1/4)
If I’m honest I have never really 'got' twitter. I was a late adopter & not had many good interactions or friendships, unlike online communities in the 90s/00s.
The most interaction I ever had was from a photo of a squirrel, not from any discussions - serious or otherwise.
But, I have benefitted from a huge range of life changing educational people and resources. I have learnt so much, both in and outside of medicine.
I have no intention of leaving twitter, just change how I use it. I’m going to treat twitter more like a passive news feed.
Speaking of procedures that are increasingly rare… blind nasal intubation. This video is a gem from the archives!

Ok folks. It’s time we talked about eels.
I’m a geologist but I recently learnt about eels and… wow.
Since then, I’ve been greeting strangers with ‘DO YOU KNOW ABOUT EELS?!’
Well, consider yourself a stranger in my path.
Strap in. It’s a 🧵

If you have trouble cannulating a tricky patient, please don’t waste your time calling anaesthetics - call a vet
Is it still a mechanical fall down stairs if the cause is ‘distracted by iphone’? Asking for a friend.
Happy 4th hatch day to this big boy. Don’t They Grow Up So Fast?! #medtwittertortoise
So I’m giving a talk to a sixth form college about a career in medicine - what do you wish you had been told when you were back at school?
This is such an important topic (overdiagnosis, overtreatment) … and not just for oncology, but all medicine and surgery. Fantastic that this is entering the public discourse.
In Jan 2021, while having treatment for cervical cancer, I started filming myself. It started as a way to make sense of what was happening to me, but I soon realised there was a much bigger story, about how we approach cancer treatment in this country… telegraph.co.uk/health-fitne…
