EXCLUSIVE: “Donnie Darko” director Richard Kelly has written a book sequel to the 2001 cult classic, set to hit shelves later this year: • Titled “The Philosophy of Time Travel,” the 800-page novel takes place in 1988, immediately after the events of the original film • Kelly says he hopes to adapt the novel into an animated/motion-capture movie before continuing the story with a live-action project that jumps 28 years into the future • “This section of the sequel would be animation and then, in theory, should it happen, there would be a gigantic time jump of 28 years or so, and where the actors, should they want to play their roles live and in the flesh, that would be wonderful, too,” Kelly tells Variety. “So we'll see what happens.” wp.me/pc8uak-1lHF40
