AEO "experts" are so unserious.
Mfs will literally say: structure your content for AEO and rank overnight!
instead of: spending your time figuring out how these brands got so popular, well known, established, loved, linked/mentioned across the entire web, etc.
If it's as simple as structuring pages a way that AI prefers, why do only a few brands get mentioned and not every brand that structures its content a certain way?
Because it's not what actually matters.
Structuring your content for retrieval, answering common questions, targeting the long tail...legit folks doing legit SEO have been doing this for ages lol.
It's not a moat. Nor is it a "way to rank" or "way to get cited faster"
It's literally just a baseline, and takes 5 seconds of logical thought to understand that it's the same exact problem as Google:
Demand far outweighs supply.
The demand to rank in Google or get mentioned by AI for searches and prompts is extremely high. Every brand wants to be the answer.
The supply is low:
- 10 blue links, max, often less, and only the top 3 matter, if that.
- just a few brands mentioned by AI as solutions for any given prompt
It's simple logic: if 100 brands want to be shown for a prompt, and they all structure their content a certain way that AEO experts claim AI prefers....it's a baseline to optimize for, and it's correlation, not causation.
Sorry but you are not going to out-visibility a competitor by changing headings and chunking your page.
What people are actually noticing is that the best brands who already rank and get mentioned just happen to do this naturally as it's a good way to structure content for readability regardless of what engine you're optimizing for.
So you're 100x better off spending your time figuring out how these brands got so popular, well known, established, loved, linked/metioned across the entire web, etc.
(btw, do you really believe AI won't find info if you don't specifically structure it to a certain style...it can literally develop new life saving medication in days on its own that took researchers 20 years btw)
Stop missing the forest for the trees with AEO.

"I’m not entirely sure what I witnessed (let alone learned) at Brighton SEO.
Marketers are creating processes to replace content writing that take longer than the content writing.
And produce worse results."

SEO/GEO space always makes me laugh. Here is a snippet from landing page from people who claim to be the world's foremost experts on AI search.
"AI visibility can shift, so best practices are not enough. The path forward requires:
Content strategy built for retrieval
Testing and measurement
Authority-building and digital PR
Technical SEO that scales
Cross-team coordination
Platform-specific intelligence
Executive-level reporting
Consistent execution over time"
The same folks will go on to shame people on socials about how they are stuck in the past doing old school stuff.
Can't make it up.

I contributed to @userp_io's State of Backlinks 2027 survey of 116 SEO leaders.
» 81.9% say inbound links influence AI citations overall, and 87.1% would keep building links even if Google turned them off as a ranking signal
» And 46.6% have documented a backlink leading directly to an LLM citation, with before-and-after evidence
» Digital PR is the strongest tactic for 53.4% of respondents, while guest posting topped the most overused list at 40.5%. That lines up with what I see in ecommerce and SaaS
The full survey findings are definitely worth a read if you're planning your 2027 link strategy 👇
Great work from the uSERP team, and thanks @jmoserr for inviting me to share my input.
Another day another Ahrefs report saying you’re ranking #1 for X keyword but you actually aren’t even on the first page and they’re just lying 🤷♂️
Unusable at this point. Almost never accurate.

Despite reading AI search and SEO content every day, I rarely read any new finding or discovery that results in actually doing something new or different, strategically.
If GEO/AEO is not heavily influenced simply by good SEO and brand across the web through a proxy of SEO efforts like PR, link building, social, podcasting, etc, why do 50%+ of my leads come from AI search and yet ive never chunked a single page or "optimized for retrieval"?
"But bro you can show up in AI without even ranking well."
1. Yes, you can get cited at decent rates without ranking first page on Google. But citations are literally useless, not a single person looks at citations for a random query and then gives you money.
2. No, you won't get mentioned for BOFU prompts in any space where tons of money is to be made by spinning up a new site and perfectly chunking your content for retrieval. Literally the same as saying "you can rank without links bro" ....yeah for "red and purple cat sweaters knitted by a grandma in England" but please show me a single website that outranked nerd wallet without links.
3. #2 has literally never happens across an ungodly amount of prompts we run for 50+ active clients every month. Like, literally not a single time.
4. Across every single prompt for our clients, the only other brands showing up in mentions at BOFU are big competitive brands who are in the competitive mix in organic search too, not brand new websites with 0 rankings, 0 links, who just happen to perfectly magically structure their content for ai retrieval (lmfao)
Step 1. Find companies who can afford you
Step 2. Do badass shit for them that produces such a huge ROI they stay for years and create massive LTV
Step 3. Find more like them
Has been my playbook since I started @userp_io and don't plan on stopping now!
If you believe this just wire me your life savings, you’ll end up in the same spot just without wasting your time, too!

47-58% of our leads in any given month come from AI search.
Haven’t done any “content engineering.”
Haven’t done any “consensus engineering”
Haven’t chunked a single article on site.
Literally just built a brand over 9 years doing good SEO and what do you know….
“GEO agencies” discovered a genius new pricing strategy:
Rename “content marketing” to “content engineering.”
Charge 5x more.
It’s amazing the amount of jargon bull shit surrounding GEO.
Literally looked at the landing page of one of the leading “geo agencies” and everything is called “engineering” yet the description of activities and deliverables is no different than their SEO pages.
🤒🤒🤒
We’ve seen a 2x increase in lead volume per month, attributed entirely to AI search.
We already had more leads than we could take on, and AI search has dumped 27+ more per month on our calendar.
The catch? 99% are trash.
Lazy. Zero intent. No affinity. Bad leads.
This company was just acquired for FIVE BILLION and they can't hire smart enough talent to realize that building 90% exact match backlinks is a bad idea?
Everyone in SEO is obsessed with serving B2B SaaS.
Here to tell you it’s overrated.
Everyday I see another agency I’ve never seen before claiming B2B SaaS is their niche focus.
I have worked with the largest of them, literally, by publicly traded market cap, and they don’t spend as much as brands you’ve never heard of in a million years.
I have clients who sell manufactured pole barns in ONE LOCAL STATE that spend more on SEO than publicly traded SaaS companies….
And guess what? The don’t suffer from the absolute churn and burn employee turnover that SaaS has, where your POC job hops every 6 months to pad their LinkedIn CV and you get fired because the new POC brings in their own agency they have preferred deals with, no matter how successful you were.
SaaS is insanely overrated to provide services to.
Historically all of my single sales call closes, up to $50k/mo contracts for a year on the first call by the way, we’re not in SaaS!
Plus, as I mentioned, there are like..unlimited SaaS SEO agencies now.
When I started there were very very few. Now there are new ones daily.
You are competing again 20 very great agencies for clients who don’t even spend that much in comparison to other niches that are historically underserved and have far more budget, more stability in growth, and far less job turnover, etc.
