RIP Paul Durcan.
This was the first poem I read by him, and it absolutely broke me.
The bliss of going rogue. A wonderful interview with Patrick McCabe in the @IrishTimesCultr on the publication of GOLDENGROVE by @unboundsocials

I'm very pleased and not a little relieved that this fine book is published today by @unboundsocials . It's GOLDENGROVE the fourteenth novel by the great Patrick McCabe.

The jaunty tone gives way to a darker mood as abduction, torture, bombings ensue. GOLDENGROVE is McCabe's most political novel. The troubled relationship between Britain and Ireland, - two countries divided by a violent common history – is its deep theme.

The @countryslidepod trio took a trip to London to celebrate the launch of Words From The Hedge. Huge thanks to @JamesChiavarini for hosting us at his temple to Wild Food 'La Palombe' lapalombe.co.uk/.
Thanks to @johnmitchinson and @PaddyGalbraith for the kind words.
A reminder that @BacklistedPod has its own Backlisted Bookshop on @bookshop_org_UK where you can buy all the books mentioned in today's episode (and all the 238 previous ones). Buying there supports the podcast & indie bookshops 🙏

An absolute masterclass in how the UK media platforms and normalises far right politics. This is how Farage wins.

1st May marks 6 years since I became a published writer, with a memoir about flapping at Easington Greyhound Stadium. That piece has taken - & is still continuing to take - me to writing places I never dreamt possible. So grateful to be one of Kit de Waal's #CommonPeople!
ALT Front cover of 'Common People: An Anthology of Working-Class Writers', edited by Kit de Waal.
ALT First page of 'This Place is Going to the Dogs' by Louise Powell. While other children went to Florida, I went flapping. To the uninitiated, going 'flapping' might sound like travelling to a holiday camp where The Birdie Song is constantly on repeat...
Bursting with pride (like may blossom from a hedgerow) at the publication of this beautifully written, important book, WORDS FROM THE HEDGE. Hail to the hedglaying word-hewer Richard Negus @troopersnooks Buy now from @unboundsocials

Here's a post I did on the book last year that's as close as I've come to going viral (800k + views). I still stand by every word. Hedges FTW!
