It’s 10:58am - the official winter solstice and the shortest day of the year. Days start to get longer tomorrow, and sunset is already 3 minutes later than it was last week. We made it!

My colleague @jonathan_wolfe interviewed me for the Coronavirus Briefing newsletter about planning for another pandemic winter. I'm an optimist. We have the tools we need - shots, boosters, home tests, masks -- to get back to life! nytimes.com/2021/10/08/us/co…

The Sanitation Department’s failure to prioritize pedestrians is just trash. Hat tip to @ReynosoBrooklyn for seeing that. Let us put garbage where it belongs: in the street with cars. nyc.streetsblog.org/2021/10/…

Hello @jonathan_wolfe TY for including a #LoveIsNotTourism story in today's @nytimes Coronavirus Briefing - "...Mr. President, please lift the travel ban, at least for fully vaccinated people like me, because this situation is hard to cope with on both sides of the ocean."

So, I tested positive for Covid-19 last week, even though I’m fully vaccinated. Consider this a PSA that “breakthrough cases” are uncommon but not freakishly rare — my doctor in Manhattan told me I was the third one she’d seen in 2 weeks.

What is the fastest growing variant in the US currently? Not #B117 anymore (now #2)—it’s actually the #P1 variant from Brazil 🇧🇷.
So @NYCHealthCommr Dr @davechokshi is indeed correct when he rightfully pointed out #P1 is “growing” in New York City. #COVID19

⚠️Dropping numbers are usually good—except when it is declining vaccinations. US has now dipped below 3 million doses a day for several straight days now—due to hesitancy not supply (US has a glut of vaccines now). Dr @AliHMokdad warns this could mean “danger ahead”. #COVID19
