Did you know that the first episode of The Simpsons that Thomas Pynchon appeared in also featured Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen reading the audiobook version of Marge’s romance novel?

Not a bad episode overall, kinda feels like a golden age Simpsons plot with sub-par execution. This moment gave me maybe the biggest laugh of season 15 so far.

Something I do love about YCSE is how Fielder/Oppenheim have the kind of authorial synergy that comes from great writers and directors collaborating, like Fincher/Sorkin on Social Network or Spielberg/Kushner’s various collabs or Chuck Jones/Dr. Seuss on the Grinch TV special.
my hot You Can See Everything take: people are making a mistake by filtering their understanding of the film only through the lens of Fielder's work, when in fact it was Oppenheim who initiated the project and had the most clear influence over its style

That’s an incredible -12% drop from Saturday to Sunday, a potentially promising sign that word-of-mouth may already be helping it out.

Brazil’s results tonight are a big endorsement for the idea that every country should have a second “are you you sure about that” election a couple weeks after the first one for the important stuff

Fascinated by how this and Buddy had similar journeys: premiered at Sundance, didn't generate enough buzz to get picked up until well after the fest (Wicker in February, Buddy in April) but managed to ride a viral marketing campaign to a remarkable $5-6 million opening weekend.
Black Bear's Wicker debuted with an estimated $5.75M domestically this weekend (from 1,471 locations). #Wicker #BoxOffice

Surprised I haven't seen more comparisons between The Drama and You Can See Everything in how their marketing hid major aspects of each movie even though those hidden portions aren't exactly twists, but pivotable parts of their premise. That said, I do think it works better--

--for both movies that those portions were not sold as part of the package; for The Drama, revealing Zendaya's secret in the marketing would have kickstarted discourse the movie itself is reckoning with, and with YCSE, people would spend half the movie going "where's [Redacted]?"

elizabeth holmes caused people actual pain. she caused death. she did that. that means everyone is allowed to make fun of her. that’s it. there’s no debate. even if her technology worked, all of her actions around it caused pain anyway. her company caused pain. REAL PAIN.

Clayface tying Superman and The Batman for best DC CinemaScore this decade while being an R-rated body horror movie is pretty wild.
