Dear @tim_cook Tomorrow you stop being CEO. Most people will reduce the last 15 years to a simple scoreboard. From 350 million to 4 trillion. A quarter that now makes what an entire year used to. While the numbers are real they don’t tell the full story. The harder part is this: you never tried to be Steve I know that sounds like a compliment people give when they don’t know what else to say or they can’t think of a better one. Most successors try to eliminate the founder or spend a decade trying to prove they are different. You sir did neither. You ran @Apple you understood the product was the culture, and your job was to keep that culture from collapsing under its own scale. Steve may have brought us the iPhone but you built the world around it. The watch, the AirPods, Apple silicon and services that turned the hardware into a relationship not just a purchase cycle. Privacy that was ours. Not just corporate jargon. You professionalized Apple without sterilizing it. It is bigger and less generic. You let it become yours instead of Steve’s museum. That is the tenure, not the market cap. You made it Apple even with Steve gone. Thank you for that. Thank you for the watch on my wrist, the chip that made my Mac a Mac. Thank you for not putting on a costume and being you. That was the whole point.
