Two weeks ago we held Market Intelligence Live in Miami. Three days at the Fontainebleau with hundreds of our members. 3 days packed with real strategy sessions on positioning capital for 2026 to 2030. The conversations that happened in that room, at dinner, in smaller breakout sessions, were the most valuable of my career. Building a community online is one thing. Meeting them in person changes everything.

Financial media has convinced people that every economic announcement requires an investment decision. • Inflation report? React. • Interest-rate decision? React. • Bad employment numbers? React. Most portfolios would benefit from fewer decisions.

5 questions I find more useful than "What stock should I buy?" 1. When will I take profits? 2. How concentrated am I? 3. What can I afford to lose? 4. What happens if I'm wrong? 5. What invalidates the thesis? Selection might get the attention… But portfolio construction does the heavy lifting.

The richest people I met on Wall Street weren't: • The highest earners • The best stock pickers • The ones watching charts They were the people who did THIS instead:

I'd add one honest caveat here: Boring doesn't mean doing nothing. Cash sitting untouched for 3 years feels safe, but it's a decision you make daily with an invisible cost (inflation). Boring is just another word for “decisions already made by a calmer version of you.”

I think it’s safe to say… The version of me at 11pm during a drawdown doesn't get a vote anymore. That one change did more for me than any credential or any forecast. If you want more on building a portfolio that runs on rules instead of predictions, follow me @juniortgr.

A surgeon can spend 15 years mastering their profession. An engineer can spend 20 years solving complex problems. A CEO can manage hundreds of employees. Then all 3 open a brokerage account and start making decisions based on headlines. Professional success means nothing to the market. AKA, lose the ego.

5 things that destroy otherwise intelligent investors: 1. Fees 2. Emotional exits 3. Oversized positions 4. Unwritten investment theses 5. Confusing confidence with competence The market doesn't care how impressive your resume is. (I learned the expensive way)

If I were building a portfolio from scratch today: I wouldn't put it in cash. I wouldn't go all in on Bitcoin. I wouldn't chase the hottest stock. I'd build 3 specific layers… Here's the exact setup:

In 2017, I had this upside down. Almost everything sat in the riskiest layer, and the core just didn’t exist. But when you build in this order… You can be in a high-variance market without taking high-variance risk.

In 2017, I turned a 5-figure portfolio into 7 figures. Then I watched it disappear. I had the financial education, the experience, and the conviction. But what I didn't have was an exit plan. It taught me that being right about an investment means very little if you can't keep the gains.
