It is so depressing it’s almost hilarious that my country’s sovereignty is at risk b/c of the dumbest people down south…

So it is ridiculous that we live in a world where the Prime Minister of Canada needs to say this, but fuck. Americans: we do not want to join your f**ked Union.
There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would become part of the United States. Workers and communities in both our countries benefit from being each other’s biggest trading and security partner.

It’s not like Canada spent most of its history worrying about a Manifest Destiny-driven USA (they literally bought Alaska to surround us) or anything…

Okay this is just absurd. Houston is currently IN government. He doesn’t need to transition from anything. There will be a glorified cabinet reshuffle at best (but I’ll bet a number of ministers will stay in post anyway)

So at this rate the @LiberalPartyNS are going to need to make Ian Rankin the leader again because he may be the only MLA left…. #nspoli

And just like that, the jokes of thousands of MA/PhD dissertations about Rodger's unfinished 'naval trilogy' were blown away. Anyway, when this is affordable on this side of the pond I'd love to see his take on this period of British naval history. penguin.co.uk/books/106199/t…

Friends in Bedford: If I still lived in Bedford (priced out of the city) I would absolutely cast a ballot for Ryan. I’ve worked with Ryan as a teacher at Halifax West and was a union member when he served as our Union President. His compassion and dedication is sorely needed.

Today in history: in 1813, an American army, 8,000 strong, set on seizing Montreal, was soundly defeated by a British force of just 900, consisting of British regulars, Canadian militia (mainly French), and a dozen Mohawk warriors.

Many battles of the War of 1812, though pivotal, were fought by forces well-below even brigade strength, and were puny compared to what was occurring in Europe. More people fought at the Battle of Leipzig, 1813, than lived in the whole of British North America.

The Canadians recognized it: one, writing to a Nova Scotian paper, The Acadian Recorder, wrote that "a six pounder is not an army, no more is 450 men, except in our puny war..."

Today in history: November 10th, the Western Union Cable Office in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, receives a top-secret message from Europe (that would be sent to Ottawa and Washington, D.C.) that said on November 11th, 1918 all fighting of the First World War would cease.

As we approach Armistice Day (in Canada, Remembrance Day) it is worth remembering that the last Canadian/Commonwealth soldier to be killed was George Price, a day later, at 10:58am on November 11th.

This is precisely the point. Canadians, Brits, and Europeans have fought and died for the US in Afghanistan. And now they have the nerve to dismiss us as freeloaders. They are a shameful country.
NATO invoked Article 5 for the first - and so far only time - after the 9/11 attacks against the United States. There’s nothing wrong with saying Europe should pull her own weight & increase defence spending - I wholly support that. However, pretending that NATO is somehow anti-American is so stupid. To answer your question: how does NATO benefit your country? They stood by your side when your country suffered its most brutal terrorist attack in history - and they would do so again.
