In Casablanca (1942), directed by Michael Curtiz, Rick (Humphrey Bogart) and Laszlo (Paul Henreid) are interrupted when Strasser (Conrad Veidt) leads a group of German officers in singing βDie Wacht am Rheinβ. Laszlo orders the house band to play βLa Marseillaiseβ, and Rick allows it. Patriotism grips the crowd and everyone joins in, drowning out the Germans. Afterwards, Strasser has Renault (Claude Rains) close the club on a flimsy pretext.

Last #NZ election, 450,000 of the special votes cast were by those who enrolled in the 2 weeks before the election. 110,000 enrolled on the day. This is the scale of the potential disenfranchisement of the Govt law change stopping enrolment on 25 October:

OTS 23 October 1915 the TS Marquette was torpedoed by a German Ubisoft off Salonika. On board was the entire No 1 NZSH relocating from Egypt to Salonica. 10 NZANS perished, 22 survived. Many more troops drowned. Today we remember them ππ³πΏ nzhistory.govt.nz/media/videβ¦
