When this conversation comes up, I always go back to this really succinct quote from Fran Lebowitz.
There's a lot of gay ppl doing culture commentary now who do not know cultural references beyond the ones that have been memes on the internet. In previous generations being gay in that space was all about being a nerd about cultural minutiae of the past. That was the foundation

I was immensely happy when I rescued The Master and Margarita from among the burned books. Since childhood, I have been deeply in love with Russian literature. This novel is, without a doubt, one of the greatest ever written, for it planted in my heart a genuine struggle between right and wrong, freedom and authority, faith and atheism, and between truth and censorship. What makes it even more beautiful is the symbolic, satirical style in which these ideas are presented — and the blending of reality with fantasy. I truly love The Master and Margarita.
The first library to survive the genocide.

Gaza City this time last year. Now almost completely destroyed. The scale of the loss is beyond comprehension. A crime against humanity in the truest meaning of the words

This guy is a more effective communicator than 95% of left-wing electeds. Connecting the moral purpose of Palestine solidarity protests with his values as a father 🫡

April 16 is #EqualPayDay. It symbolizes how far into 2024 the average woman must work just to earn what the average man did in 2023. In nonprofits, this pay gap is especially glaring. Women are 80% of all nonprofit workers, yet men earn more in every category of the sector.

most "left-wing media" is so polisci and literature student-coded and so little of it is about like "here's how containerization/the plastics industry/mining etc work in detail and here's how it affects you on a day to day basis"

We live in an age where violence is so abstracted and symbolized that you can claim that 12,000+ human beings blown to pieces in air strikes is acceptable, moral even, and people peacefully blocking the entrance to a building is grotesque, terrifying violence
