When AO3 is back up, I better not see anyone saying "ugh xyz STILL hasnt updated?? You had 4 whole weeks! 😭" about any fic or author or else the new server farm will be built from your bones

also! if you write a coda, fix-it, or spec fic, PLEASE still post it to ao3 even if it doesn't come back until hiatus! I promise people will still want to read it even if it's been "too long" since the episode aired or your spec fic was about an ep that already aired.

10/30/2026 (20261030). Day 2 of shutdown. Saw a fic description on tumblr that hits every single one of my wants. Looking at the ao3 link while my eye twitches. I may be rocking back and forth but it's hard to tell. End log.

have we considered that buck might separate Eddie from his situation not only because of his own issues but because he SEES how deeply Eddie inserted himself in it, and he SAW that it's not that safe for Chris and he HEARD Eddie say "maybe you should go" so he thinks he helps+

reminder to ALWAYS SUPPORT FIC AUTHORS. even while ao3 is down, many of them are on social media and you can find threadfics or their personal archives, as well as leave them comments and support!!!!!!

Understand while ao3 is down, writers are getting 0 recognition during this time. No happy emails about kudos or comments, no checking to see if anyone glanced at their fic that day etc
I've seen my fics in people's drives already, I'm okay with it atm but if you do read my or someone else's work through the dealings going on
Please PLEASE go show that writer love. Let them know you appreciated it etc and when ao3 comes back leave a kudos or comment or both
Something to also kind of reassure writers: the drives CANNOT replace ao3.
They are good for preservation and cases like this, but it can't and won't replace ao3. No tagging, no real search, no anything. The second ao3 is back, no matter the drives, I'll be back on ao3.
So i honestly think even with the drives, once ao3 is back, things will go back to normal. Many of the drives being shared are not new, but ines from previous droughts.
Obviously you are still in your right to ask people to stop sharing your fics!

When AO3 returns:
-Leave kudos on stories that made you smile/cry/laugh
-Comment on ones that ended months/years ago
-Share links of your favorites, and tag the author so they can see it!
-Don't forget how you felt today when you're tempted to rate someone's free piece of art💙

friendly reminder if you read people’s fics while ao3 is down, and if people let you in their docs please still go back and give them kudos and comments once it’s back up! make sure ur showing authors all the love once you can!

People giving AO3 shit should read up on what happened to the British Library after its cyberattack. A major national institution with government backing and more funds had services disrupted for MONTHS.
AO3 is run largely by volunteers. Be serious.
Tbh I'm on a very middle ground on this. On one hand, an archive is being archived, kinda. And it's not like a fic gains more engagement on rereads, you can only give one bookmark and kudos. On another, I understand why people feel off about their work being so out of their hands
With no real chance to orphan or delete or block anyone from it. Personally I don't mind my fics being in the wild, but I get it, people pour their hearts into them sometimes, and it being taken out of their hands is. Off.
So. Very grey area on this.
