Mechanotransduction
Mechanical pressure on shin bones extended mouse lifespan by 80 days (+9.4%). That’s the human equivalent of 7–9 yrs. Bone pressure triggers PIEZO1 sensors to broadcast anti-aging signals to the brain, liver, and immune system. If this translates to humans, my dunk training is flooding my entire body with anti-aging juice.

Mechanotransduction is something we'll all start hearing more about very soon, if you haven't already. It’s the process by which mechanical stimuli is translated into biological signals that influence cellular function. What this means is that our physical inputs affect cellular activity, immune function, mental health, metabolic function, and state of our nervous system. A basic example of mechanotransduction is when a mechanical force is repeatedly applied to tendons, it will stimulate them to grow & strengthen. Nothing ground breaking here. You see this in rock climbers whose tendons thicken due to the repeated tension placed on them. But it goes even deeper than this. Mechanical stimuli can affect tissue regeneration in your organs as well as how your bodily systems function. For example, the signaling, metabolism, motility/migration, and gene expression of T cells is influenced by mechanical inputs to the extracellular matrix. Meaning the internal and external mechanical loads put on our bodies will modulate our immune function and more. Our bodies are comprised of a viscoelastic tensegrity network. This network extends from the musculoskeletal level of analysis down to the level of the extracellular matrix. How you are able to move (or not move) will send signals to your cells impacting and influencing the quality of your phenotypical expression. Movement within your tissues is key because it induces intracellular signaling that directs immune function, gene expression, and chemical response. If your tissues are inflamed, calcified, and carry too much tension & stiffness it will signal or limit the motility of immune response cells (T-Cells), motor neurons, oxygen carrying red blood cells, and chemical/hormonal responses. Looking back up the chain, at the level of movement we can consciously control. There is a manner of movement that we can embody that will best signal the appropriate and most biologically efficient responses all the way down at the level of the extracellular matrix. The ideal is moving our bodies in a way where forces/tensions are aligned along the fascial lines to allow the greatest simultaneous linkage of mechanical force in the body. When our body is "linked-up" with coherent, aligned fascial tensegrity network the signal being communicated from the mechanical stimuli will be most efficiently translated down to the level of your cells at the genetic level. Why is this significant? It is significant because it tells us that we need aligned movement throughout the body to function at our highest capacity and send the right signals at the cellular level. One, its not enough just to move around randomly, we need proper structure of movement in accordance with the body's natural tensegrity network so that the communication pathways are strong. Two, we cannot afford to act as is we are plants: passively absorbing food, supplements, drugs, the earth, and the sun to comprehensively signal all of the proper, healthy functions of the human body. We need aligned movement as major part of the equation.

Gen Z isn’t wrong.
I’ve been thinking about crazy Gen Z salary expectations. This was big a little while ago. In case you missed it — here’s what different generations consider a “successful income”:

Maybe that was the gambit. Pandemic to usher in a technology that wouldn’t have been adopted quickly. Kill millions to reduce cancer deaths in the future. It’s morally awful, but progress takes any route it chooses. Progress is not moral. Theil’s thesis that maybe evil and effective is preferable to good and inept.
#BREAKING: World’s first cancer vaccine cuts tumor recurrence by 42% in Moderna’s phase 3 trial.

Was thinking about onion farmers. They’re out there day in and day out growing onions non stop so that there’s always a steady supply wherever you go all the time.

Thing is, the difference in "how much time you have left" in your 20s vs your 30s is negligible practically speaking. It's just that your 30s is the first time you realize your time isn't infinite so every bad decision you made in the last decade is contextualized within new information that you didn't have when you made said mistakes. And that sucks for most people (ie regret, loss, injustice, etc)

I good number of the young people I know are fully aware that they’re priced out of the life they want. I think it’ll spur a lot of ingenuity.

It’s true that your life is shaped by what you have done consistently. It takes about 5-10 years to really see how your behaviors compound. It’s a hard thing to get younger people to understand.

Started using a Roman chair for back extensions and also found that if you use it in reverse you can get a really great ab workout where almost all the work is being done at end range. Different than most ab exercises which are some variation of crunches or planks.

I knew it was going to be some concoction. Erik says “drinking today” and it’s some whole one of a kind thing like this. He says “eating today” and it’s primal cut lamb leg aged 4 weeks in a Tibetan temple with rare spices acquired at trader joes and home evaporated salt cure

Mechanotransduction
A very interesting study was just released, and it’s not the first of its kind, but it is the perfect exemplification of just how critical every day of exercise is. A single workout, just one, turns on and activates 3,000 unique exercise related proteins. These are gene signaling proteins. These are the messages that you’re sending your entire body about your behavior, your environment and your daily habits. It is the activation of these proteins that, in part, tells your nervous system about the trajectory of the organism. How active is this guy? What does he value? What is he working towards? Those 3,000 messages you’re sending your body every time you work out play an enormous role in maintaining the overall milieu of an active, healthy, abundant organism. You can skip one, sure, and come back tomorrow and get those messages sent. But can you miss two or three or four? I would advise strongly against it. This is why consistency is so important. This is why frequent exposures to intense bouts of physical output are so important. They keep the messages flowing in one direction. You do one workout and then skip a week. That’s not good enough. That doesn’t send the signal to your nervous system, to your DNA, to your epigenome that physical activity is important and that adaptations had better begin to happen. The only way you send that all important signal is to exercise consistently and regularly, to go hard and then recover and then go hard again. This is something we all knew already, but to have it spelled out in such explicit gene level detail is valuable. You don’t even have to know what the signals are actually saying. You don’t have to know the specifics. All you have to know is that they are happening.

You need the mechanotransduction
Exercise in a pill will never happen because it’s like trying to replace the sun with vitamin D pills. The physical stimulus has to occur for all the good things to happen.

We're really good at identifying what is going on. We're not good at knowing what it means and what to do about it.
