Took some time during self-directed PD to redirect myself. Between conversations on data driven instruction and Checkpoint and end-of-quarter grades, it felt nice to revisit my (ever evolving) values and the things I've learned in my first 1.5 years in the classroom.
Really excited to use this this year.
Sometimes, "getting going" is as much a challenge as "getting done" for our kids. Here's how I support either endeavor when my kids need a nudge. #Project180
Last week I had the pleasure of participating in the inaugural session of "Space Age on the Space Coast" with @historyed and @NEH_Education. Here are some highlights! #HistoryMatters #NEHSpaceCoast #NEHSummer #NEHWhyHere
As always, lots of question to consider. Like how do we teach about the role of Wernher von Braun in developing America's space program? How do we appreciate the awe-inspiring images coming from Webb while recognizing NASA's inherit connection to the military industrial complex?

@ChiPubSchools is recommending that schools give a universal screener 3 times per year in math and reading.
Does it really need to be given to every student 3 times per year?
What resources and training are allocated to school staff to respond to the screener data?
Excited to share that I was accepted to this NEH Landmarks Workshop! Can't wait to dig into the history of the space program – and my hometown.
Congratulations to @historyed and @amfcse at Kennedy Space Center for receiving a 2022 Landmarks grant! Their project, The Space Age on the Space Coast, will examine the connections between the space race, political culture, civil rights, and technology between the 1950s-1970s.

There's a phenomenon I actually see extremely commonly when literature is used to teach history to middle school and high school students. Let's call it "pajamafication."

Looking for a vax location for your 5 to 11 yr old? WBEZ ed has a list of vax sites and details on the rollout of the pediatric vaccine. CPS students have the day off on 11/12 to get vaxed. wbez.org/stories/chicago-kid…
I’m just a teacher, working outside of contract hours, desperately trying to understand how to use Skyline in a middle school social science classroom.
According to the Google classrooms CPS created, I’m teaching music and physical education… at a school I no longer work at. 😳 Anyone else? Anyone know who I can reach out to about this?

Replying to @AldMattMartin
@AldMattMartin is a great partner in fighting for a Chicago that works for us all. If you’ve seen mailers talking nonsense about him and his work, here’s the explanation. Don’t believe that crap. Matt is a real one and we love him & his team.

i had the privilege to give an Ed Talk, a mini-lecture about the future of education. i imagined what it would be like if the prototypical achievement of language arts curriculum was a deep study of the rap verse. 🎤 i hope it sparks your imagination too! youtube.com/watch?v=HTBcya0Y…
The CPS guidance around Adam Toledo tells teachers to engage in “sense-making.” There is no sense to be made.
