The San Francisco city budget has increased 228% from $6.4B in 2010 to $14.6B in 2024, far outpacing population growth (0.4%) and inflation (44%). Looking around the city, it's obvious that money and opportunity has been squandered. With the exception of a few developments (Mission Bay, Dogpatch), not much to show for it (where did it go?). It's never too late to fix this though! Need real leadership to reduce wasteful spending and put that money to good use. San Francisco should be the best run and most beautiful city in the world, setting an example for other cities around the world. A $14.6B budget is plenty to do so quickly. And it's not complicated. Rebuild the schools, make the public spaces beautiful and safe, change stupid laws that don't serve its residents.
