One missing pulse. Three immune-mediated diseases. A challenging treatment decision. A routine clinical examination uncovered Takayasu arteritis in a patient with ulcerative colitis and psoriasis. The challenge? Choosing a biologic that could address all three conditions. Our team at the Institute of Rheumatology, Madras Medical College, Chennai, is pleased to share this interesting case, now published in The Open Rheumatology Journal. A reminder of the value of bedside examination and thoughtful, individualized treatment in complex autoimmune disease. India's data protection law may soon require a reporter to warn the very person he is investigating and seek his consent before publishing. Will a corrupt official ever give it? Never. He will shred the files, lean on witnesses and rush to court. Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw says press freedom is guaranteed by the Constitution. I welcome that. But a Minister's word is not the law, and an assurance is not a safeguard. I have written to him: if there is no intention to curb the press, write it into the Act. Privacy and press freedom can coexist. Put it in the law.

✓ Nephrotic syndrome causes a hypercoagulable state through four main mechanisms-: Urinary loss of Antithrombin III (AT-III) impairs the inactivation of thrombin and Factor Xa, removing the body's primary anticoagulant brake. Compensatory hepatic overproduction of procoagulants elevates plasma levels of fibrinogen, Factor V, and Factor VIII to balance low albumin. Hypoalbuminemia induced fluid shifts cause severe intravascular volume depletion and hemoconcentration, resulting in sluggish blood flow and stasis. Altered platelet dynamics increase free arachidonic acid and thromboxane A2 levels, driving marked platelet hyperaggregability and clot formation.

Neuroscience, a field so demanding of the intellect and so inhospitable to intellectual complacency.
The human brain contains about 86 billion neurons, each with thousands of synapses which connect them together. This is how these countless microscopic junctions transfer signals between cells. 📽️: Helix Animations

If Prasar Bharati can spend ₹15 crore a year on a DD News show featuring a star anchor, while the ISRO Chairman’s basic pay is about ₹27 lakh a year, shouldn’t we rethink our priorities? If India wants to conquer space and attract our finest scientific minds, our rewards must match our ambitions.

Most people leave before the story gets interesting. That’s not a flaw in them. It’s just the cost of being “real”.

The government’s greed for higher tax revenues from the stock market may backfire. With investors’ wealth eroding and market sentiment deteriorating, the government may end up collecting virtually nothing from stock market transactions this year.

Frequently i write about practices in the health insurance sector, particularly regarding Care Health Insurance. Recently, a patient with severe aortic stenosis consulted me. We provided an estimated procedure cost of approximately ₹7 lakh. The patient has a base mediclaim policy of ₹5 lakh along with a ₹45 lakh top-up cover. Because Care Health Insurance often disburses less than the sanctioned amount to our patients and doesn't pay if there is any complications ,we routinely ask for an upfront deposit. Now, the insurer is actively steering the patient toward a large corporate facility like Kokilaben Hospital, where the exact same surgery will likely cost at least ₹12- 15 lakh. When the procedure could be completed safely for ₹7 lakh, why is the insurer willing to pay upwards of ₹15 lakh to a corporate hospital?( same valve , same sutures , same outcome , only big hospital) Who ultimately absorbs this inflated cost? Policyholders do, through steadily climbing premiums. This is precisely why I continue to raise this issue: the growing nexus between insurance companies and large corporate chains threatens to eliminate smaller nursing homes and standalone hospitals—and policyholders are left paying the price. Remember - I am writing again - slowly all small hospitals and Nursing home will close down - only large corporate hospitals will survive and your mediclaim premium will be exorbitantly high .

The irony of the situation is hard to miss. Those who protest in a particular fashion should not be surprised when opponents counter-protest in the same fashion. This is not a question of whose ideology is right. It is a question of who breaks the law, and whether the State deals with all of them alike. If more than 50 men were threatening violence outside a police station, that is precisely what Section 126/170 BNSS exists for. Article 14 demands that preventive law be applied without discrimination. @neha_aisa
Are more than 50 right wing goons threatening with violence right outside the mandir marg police station not a "breach of peace" for the Delhi Police? This hooliganism is being enabled while peaceful protestors are being framed as disruptors in the imagination of the people.
