A word to the youngins who’ve heard all my horror stories about the music industry and still wanna dance with the devil: Take your credit as seriously as your money. Like it or not, public recognition and credit are assets. For years, I thought demanding credit for work you were supposed to be doing was “corny.” I actually thought the real could recognize real from the fugaz. Experience taught me I was 100% WRONG. If you’re not telling niggas what you did, somebody else will take YOUR credit. And if industry people don’t like you, they will absolutely diminish your contribution, regardless of what you actually accomplished. Document your work. Correct the record. Don’t play about your credit. Be as serious about it as you are about your money.

I’ve been off and on this app since 09. It’s devolved into a cesspool for abject failures, low-skilled, self-loathing losers who only find purpose in questioning the legacy of effective people. Muthafuckas don’t fully understand their place in their food chain. Fair too many grown people, particularly men, are seeking escape or rescue from adulthood. Losers hell-bent on ensuring mediocrity becomes the standard.

“an individual's creativity cannot take place without exposure to and engagement with past (pre-existing) creative works. So when we speak of individual creativity, we’re really speaking about the individualization of one's exposure and engagement with past (pre-existing) creative works.”

This is so real and so human. I can see in Patti’s eyes that she knows her friend, Gladys, is not the same.

Yeah, I started this label with one of my best friends, Jerry Famolari. We also had a studio in the back. Big Pun, The Beatnuts, Cormega, 50 Cent and Sha Money, they mixed some of 50 Cent Is the Future there, Kool G Rap, Mike Beck (RIP), E-Money Bags (RIP), Mobb Deep (RIP Prodigy), and a whole bunch of other BQE hiphop artists recorded in there through the mid late 90s/early 200s Action Bronson both tracked his very first vocals there. Meyhem was there religiously. . And NO ONE is gonna say this, so I will: a lot of that NY underground shit y’all fuck with today came directly out of this little ecosystem. We paid Alchemist $350 to make a beat for Mighty Mi in 1999. Unfortunately, J got jammed up in a big sweep with like 30 dudes I grew up with. But he’s home now. Just texted him. Eyeballs emoji
