📢 UPDATE | #VIHIGA COUNTY DOCTORS’ KAMUKUNJI We held a vibrant and productive Kamukunji this morning at Vihiga County Teaching and Referral Hospital (VCTRH). Members agreed to reactivate the Strike Management Committee, working closely with Branch Leadership, to pursue immediate physical engagements with the County Government and seek an audience with H.E. the Governor as preparations for the imminent industrial action continue. Outstanding issues: 1. Non-implementation of CBA basic salary adjustments and arrears. 2. Overdue promotions for doctors. 3. Failure to recruit more doctors despite the acute shortage. 4. Lack of comprehensive medical cover for doctors. 5. Denial of study leave for doctors. We await the Secretary General’s strike notice on 1 November 2026, while intensifying efforts to secure an amicable resolution to these longstanding grievances. It is deeply regrettable that Vihiga County continues to demonstrate hostility towards doctors and their legitimate concerns. The persistent failure to resolve these issues through dialogue leaves us with the impression that industrial action is the only meaningful way to resolve labour disputes with Vihiga County. ♀️ In a #workforce comprising both women and men, how do we ensure that both have a meaningful voice in the decisions that shape their professional lives? That question sits at the heart of gender equality in trade unionism. On Friday, 23 October 2026, KMPDU, in partnership with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), convened its inaugural Gender Workshop to advance women’s voice, leadership and accountability in trade unionism. The discussions explored barriers to women’s career progression, workplace safety and access to leadership, as well as their participation in union decision-making and collective bargaining. Representation opens the door. Influence shapes decisions. Accountability sustains progress. For KMPDU, meaningful gender equality means ensuring women have a voice in shaping the decisions that affect their professional lives and the future of their Union. More images 👉🏾 l1nk.dev/p0927rk

📈 The #GAINS we see today in healthcare were not given; they were fought for. Whenever the health of the nation is at stake, it takes a clear head to separate facts from sentiments. Time and again, those entrusted with the health docket have sought to steer the discussion through sentiment rather than substance. But sentiment cannot override evidence, and emotion cannot erase reality. Ultimately, the facts must prevail, with due regard for the lived realities of both healthcare providers and those who seek care. *Policy must serve reality, not sentiment.* Reality should NOT be forced to fit policy. It is policy that must be shaped around the realities on the ground, not political convenience.

Staff welfare is not a privilege; it is a fundamental part of delivering quality healthcare. We engaged with KUTRRH CEO Dr. Zeinab Gura, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), and KMPDU Nairobi Chapter leaders to push for the fast-tracking and signing of outstanding Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs). We remain committed to constructive dialogue that delivers tangible outcomes for doctors and healthcare workers. Fair working conditions, timely implementation of agreements, and respect for workers’ rights are essential to building a motivated workforce and strengthening healthcare delivery. Our position remains clear: honour agreements, protect workers’ welfare, and put patients first.
