Morning Thought:
A kid can love basketball and have absolutely no interest in turning it into a career.
Somewhere along the way, we started labeling that a lack of ambition.
Can we leave some room for being pretty good at something simply because you enjoy doing it? And that being all of it?

Go to Costco, get yourself a 4 lb bag of cosmic crisp apples. Then get yourself a 2.7 year old who will take a bite out of each one when you’re not looking and throw them all behind the couch.

She may not have known it, but she inspired so many of us girls who loved football more than the other girls. Whether we even realized it or not. She was who we could relate to.
Hayden’s character Cheryl was and is the blueprint for Fangirl for Football.

AAU should be fun! I’ve been thinking about that a lot during tryout season.
Don’t let a 10-year youth basketball journey become miserable because everyone is chasing a “maybe” scholarship.
Yes, compete. Yes, train. Yes, set big goals. But don’t lose sight of why your kids fell in love with the game in the first place.
Find a team that enjoys competing TOGETHER… and just as importantly, enjoys being around each other. Be part of something you don’t want to leave. When the season ends, you should miss the people more than the schedule.
Enjoy the road trips. Laugh in the hotel lobbies. Celebrate the little wins. Handle adversity together. Become better teammates. Make memories your family will still be talking about 20 years from now!!
If a scholarship comes, that’s incredible. If it doesn’t, your kids can still walk away with confidence, resilience, lifelong friendships, and lessons that extend far beyond basketball… oh, and still play at a non-scholarship level!
A college scholarship is a possibility. Childhood is a guarantee. Don’t sacrifice one chasing the other.
The scholarship might last four years. The memories, relationships, and experiences your family creates along the way will last a lifetime.
Choose accordingly.
Our AAU 2026 season is officially over. We lost by 2 points in the UA Rise 17U championship to Team Thrill 17U UAA. PROUD of my players this season & how hard they play for each other & us coach’s. I will miss this. Until next summer 💙👏🏽😢 @MNCometsGirls @ktdebaker @UARiseGirls

The longer you’re around girls basketball, the more you realize how many parents are chasing a college scholarship for their daughter - for the money they’ll save on tuition, the bragging rights, or to keep living vicariously through their kid.
What’s surprising is how few seem to ask the most important question: Does my daughter actually love playing basketball enough to want to keep doing it for four more years?

Whats strange about soccer: It employs absurd mathematical precision to police offsides, a rule that mostly matters in spirit rather than in strict application. (You just don't want cherrypicking) But its extremely casual about timekeeping, whose literal application matters a ton

If you're a naturally anxious person, I recommend pursuing a high stress career path where at least you'll be compensated for anxiety you're going to have anyways.

Unironically, adding a walkable coffee shop and a pub to a suburban neighborhood would make them 10x more enjoyable and dynamic.
Imagine the run-ins you’d have every morning on your walk for coffee, or spontaneous games you watch with the dads at the pub.
Sounds kinda awesome.
