Replying to @guycecil
No. How monumental elections are interpreted is actually very important, and you and I both know that Adam Hamilton did not flip Kansas by being a dogmatic orthodox progressive and it's important that everyone hear that.

“There’s a clear lesson for Democrats looking at these election results: It’s preferable to run moderates — and avoid far-left candidates — in battleground areas.”

I have known Chuck Schumer for 16 years. I worked closely with him and his staff when I worked for Harry Reid. I have a lot of respect for him and have also had my differences over the years.
The job of leader happens mostly behind the scenes. The traits that make a good leader are not the same as what makes you good at social media, etc. Reid was famous for saying off-message stuff—lord knows how he would have fared in the age of social media.
When you’re in the majority, the job is about setting the agenda and passing bills that help people. When you’re in the minority, you’re at the mercy of the majority in terms of the agenda, so the job is mainly to get back in the majority.
By that measure, Schumer succeeded wildly on Tuesday.
He oversaw the biggest Democratic sweep in the Senate since Watergate, recruiting candidates who fit their states and putting them in position to win states many had written off long ago. He was an early believer in Mississippi, for example.
You can litigate this or that decision, and I certainly didn’t agree with them all—but when you step back and look at the big picture there’s simply no way to argue with this historic achievement.
To me, the question of whether Schumer deserves to be reelected as leader after the most dominant performance by Senate Democrats in more than half a century is straightforward, and the answer is clearly yes.
How are you having trouble with this? You’re so bad at faking that you don’t know exactly what modern Republicans are. You blast Trumpism, while championing Mitch McConnell? his chief enabler who made it possible for his return. It’s a tired act

Elias makes an excellent point here: flipping Congress matters for what happens in Trump’s final two years, but running up the score in these state races has by far the most outsized Electoral College implications for 2028

Uhhh, didn't the DSAers run in all safe districts? That means they didn't face competitive campaigns. Whereas most of the Blue Dog types had hard fought races.

The DSA had their fun, but the results are clear. Voters do not like your candidates.
There is space in America for DSA politicians, but you need to find better faces or better candidates.
Don't blame Dems for your failures!!!

I think there should be a ban on “calling for new leadership” in the Senate unless you are either going to actually run or else specifically back a person who is running, this non-specific whining is unseemly.
Warren already acts like she’s the boss, why not just run?

I can give Troy Jackson and Jeff Merkley a pass bc of Susan Collins and Tina Kotek.
But Minnesota, Michigan, and Illinois stand out a lot here. And I think progressives need to recognize that Republicans lost this election, but progressives did not win it
The fact that Republicans got wiped out in red states as @SenMcConnell retires after playing such a central role in enabling Donald Trump has to be the highlight of the election. Good riddance to a craven ghoul whose harmful life’s work culminated in losing Kansas + Mississippi
Reminder that @GOPJake is a coffee boy for safe-R state treasurer races and second place gubernatorial primary campaigns
Reminder that @AndyBeshearKY hasn’t accomplished dog doo doo in 8 years.
The @KYGOP is responsible for every success from lower taxes to a better business environment.
We should really be talking more about what Josh Shapiro did on Tuesday.
In a state that Trump won 2 years ago, he won reelection by 22 points, which is not only 9 points more than the closest swing-state Democratic senator; it's a bigger margin of victory than Hochul in NY and Lamont in CT.

Maybe one of the worst Dem candidates of the cycle: launched a dumb primary and then in a D plus a million year runs a lazy race against a 78 year has been/nut job, tacked way too far to the left and blew a seat that should have been in the bag.

I think a lot of young people are sincerely confused about this, but it's just not the case that Bernie Sanders invented the idea of campaigning on economic fairness themes — this is the common currency of ~all Democratic Party campaigns.
"The majority makers of 2026 were mainstream and moderate Democrats who overperformed and flipped red and purple places blue—especially in seats that have been moving further away from Democrats over the last decade."
