I still remember her Developmental Biology lectures: helped me choose my research field. Inspiring scientist Mary-Lou Pardue. And one of the few women faculty then at MIT.
Thanks Ahna Skop for sharing: Link to the late great Bill Wood singing about science. Amazing scientist, and gifted musician. The Rime of the Ancient Worm Picker at minute 32.

Bill Wood died last night [May 9, 2024]. Among many achievements, he edited the first worm book (1988), my constant companion in grad school (the Hengartner Lab did a chapter/week for journal club, a valuable crash course in the C. elegans system) and the foundation for WormBook.

excellent advice for junior (and senior) microscopists out there!! so many of my research pursuits started out as a “side” observation during an imaging session. there’s so much biology waiting to be discovered if we pay close enough attention 😍

Thank you to the coolest @HarmitMalik and @Barr_lab for their vision and hard work in bringing this conference together! What an incredible five days of #TAGC24!
And that, as they say, is a wrap! Amazing talks by @BerondaM and @The_Gruber_Fdtn prize talk by Hugo Bellen close out #TAGC24
Grateful to @GeneticsGSA for the trust and to @Barr_lab for being an amazing partner (and to Suzy Brown and Anne Marie Mahoney for being just amazing)
Best dressed at TAGC24!

I too, have been given the advice to “do less” DEI-focused outreach and service and to focus on research. Folks in leadership- please read this thread, because @QuinaScience lays out a perfect response.

Putin tried and failed to murder Navalny quickly and secretly with poison, and now he has murdered him slowly and publicly in prison. He was killed for exposing Putin and his mafia as the crooks and thieves they are. My thoughts are with the brave man's wife and children.
I just wrote a @theactionnet letter: Tell Speaker Coughlin: We Need a Final Vote to Fix the Inflated Fringe Rate that harms research at NJ's public universities. Write one here: actionnetwork.org/letters/te…
