The foremost (& 1st) #podcast dedicated to #GreenLantern, hosted by 2 Lanternologists: Chad Bokelman & Mark Marble! EST - 2008 by Jim Ford & Dan Kurtzke #GLCast

Joined January 2011
My first experience with Green Lantern comics: I bought the REBIRTH HC & the GL Showcase Vol 2 from @BordersBooks near the Regal Westgate in Austin in 2008. I remember because I was there early killing time before I saw either the first Iron Man or The Incredible Hulk (I remember it being a popular superhero film at the Regal). I absorbed REBIRTH that evening. In the time between then and October of that year, I found @ComicGeekSpeak & their forums. In late October I bought my first issue off the stands at an LCS (Tribe Comics & Games at their first location off of Menchaca behind Half Price Books on South Lamar). It was a one-shot special FINAL CRISIS: RAGE OF THE RED LANTERNS. And thus my journey began. Through CGS I discovered the LanternCast at the end of 2008 (this is why they're our podcast Godfathers). Jim & Dan had just recently started the show having met on the forums. Jim had wanted to listen to a show about GL, but there being none, opted to start it himself. He reached out to Dan on the forums and The LanternCast was born. Their (numbered) episode four...covered the Red Lanterns special (though it was technically the 6th released episode of the show). Eventually Mark and I (Chad) inherited the show 5 years after it's debut, and now Mark and I have been doing it nearly 13 years. I share my love of GL through The LanternCast because my fandom of this franchise is nearly inextricably linked to this podcast. Sure, I didn't start it. But it was there as I began to learn about the mythos. Dan & Jim answered my emails on the air asking questions as I started trying to dive deeper into the publication history. The LanternCast was my teacher in my fandom of Green Lantern. Sometimes I worry I do this more out of habit than anything else. Sometimes I worry that, without the LanternCast, I'd succumb entirely to my introverted nature and rarely interact with a single soul. Sometimes, in my more morbid moments, I think of the future of LanternCast as a kind of legacy archive, something my family could return to someday, a record of my voice and the things I cared about. But, as long as I've cared for the character of Green Lantern, the LanternCast has been around. And as long as the LanternCast has existed, is how long I've been a fan of Green Lantern. So sure, not everyone needs to have a podcast. But it's also not very often an individual NEEDS a podcast. So in todays moment of self reflection? I just wanted to take the opportunity while it was in my mind to thank the listeners of this show past, present, and future (and Mark, Jim, Dan, Jason, James, etc)...for letting my fandom have a home for nearly 18 years in one form or another (and hopefully more years to come). -Chad Bokelman, co-host of The LanternCast

COMIC BOOK COLLECTORS: Does anyone know if there's a guide for transferring the YEARS of comic collection data I've entered into @collectorz's CLZ app over to @ComicGeeks or @keycollectorapp? If not both? I'm talking about all that info I've spent years cataloging. Starting over manually isn't worth the time to me, but if there's a way to import it all, I'd LOVE to know how! Any tips or guides out there?

Not the first time I’ve seen the Order of St Dumas cross paths with the Green Lantern mythos. The Order is a concept created by Denny O’Neil and Denny also wrote the Green Lantern novel ‘Hero’s Quest’. In that novel Kyle is sent by a Guardian to retrieve his own battery. The battery…is in a place described by Kyle as an “ice cathedral” located in the Alps. There he meets the “supreme pontiff and heir to the mantle of the most blessed St. Dumas” named Brother Rolo. Brother Rolo informs Kyle that the order acquired the Battery “three hundred and seventy-eight years ago” when a GL “suffered a mishap and died.” Kyle wants the battery, the Order doesn’t want to give it up. A fight ensues, but Kyle makes it out with the battery. This is technically an “Elseworlds” style story since it takes place in the “Justice League of America” series of prose novels from the early/mid 2000’s. Will this have ABSOLUTELY ANY connection to this comic? I’d say no but hey anything is possible. Regardless, I always wondered if that story of St Dumas acquiring a power battery hundreds of years ago would ever get a chance to be explored. Which naturally makes one wonder how the two mythos would interact. So this sounds like it could be fun!

“Interesting” take aside… It’s criminal that DC has NEVER COLLECTED THESE STORIES ever. It opened with CAROL FERRIS straight up offing Katma Tui (John Stewart’s wife). Idk about you but HALS girlfriend KILLING John’s WIFE is a moment in GL lore worth making available!
Never forget when Superman comics were selling so badly that they added Hal Jordan to Action Comics in order to increase sales 🥱

How are we feeling about Green Lantern right now, especially post-LANTERNS? To be clear, I'm not trying to reopen the debate about whether LANTERNS was good or bad. We've been talking about that ad nauseam for nearly two months. Surely we're all ready to talk about something else. So here's what I'm curious about: Is the franchise actually building momentum? Are we seeing new opportunities for the stable of characters? Any news about animation, film, or additional seasons? Do we have any sense of how Paramount/WB feels about LANTERNS and what comes next? What about the comics? We have the new Black Label series coming, and I HOPE it's good. But we have to wait and see. Meanwhile, the main GL title just wrapped up a story involving Kyle and *checks notes* fast food franchises. And remember Krona? He was reintroduced in GREEN LANTERN CORPS #8 on September 10, 2025. GREEN LANTERN #27 followed two weeks later. We've since had GLC #21 and GL #39, and we STILL know very little about what Krona is actually up to. It's been over a year since they teased the whole Hal/Krona storyline. And Corps issue 21 JUST re-teased the entire thing as...what? A reminder? I suppose it HAS been a whole ass year. "Hey, remember this thing we haven't really touched on? It's still happening. Don't forget!" So where's the momentum? Are things actually moving forward, or are we stagnating at a time when Green Lantern should have more attention and opportunity than ever? This is a genuine question. We've put out eight episodes of LANTERNS reviews, a wrap-up episode, and plenty of other content in the meantime. At a certain point, it's hard to see the forest for the trees. I'm curious how everyone else is feeling about the state of the franchise right now. Not just the show. GREEN LANTERN.

It is time. For the entirety of LANTERNS Season 01 we've been saying, "We'll wait until the end of the season to give our final thoughts". Dan of Mosaic Comics joins us as we do just that... What grade do we give the season and, more importantly, WHY? lanterncast.com/lanterncast-…

Say what you will about LANTERNS positive or negative (we certainly did) but EVERY era of Green Lantern has been someone's first. Some fans discovered Hal Jordan decades ago. Others found Kyle, John, Guy, Jessica, Simon, Jo, or the Corps through a comic, a game, or a conversation with someone who loved these characters. The light keeps passing to someone new. THAT'S the legacy.

It's not an event worth doing in my opinion. At least not yet. Not even "soon". The gravitas of 'Blackest Night' wasn't just the culmination of years of GL storytelling, but ALSO the entirety DC Comics continuity. Every character we loved and had lost (or hated and lost) came back to tug on those emotional touch-points in order to elicit the emotion they needed to charge their battery. Ralph and Sue reappearing and killing Carter and Kendra and ROCKING Ray Palmer to his core. Arthur returning to his grieving widow. Jason, trapped inside of Ronnie, watching Gehenna turn to salt before his eyes at "his" own hand. Etc If you don't yet have a vast stable of deceased characters with the emotional ties invested between both the characters AND the audience watching them...it's not as effective of a story and therefore not worth doing IMO.
If DC Studio decided to go the Blackest Night route for their big crossover movie, who do you think should be in the Black Lantern Corps? For maximum impact, these should be dead characters who can elicit the maximum amount of emotion from the living, and also possibly metahuman.
