Arrrgh. Perhaps it's time to reconsider getting A/C. Sigh.
The worst of the ongoing heatwave is yet to come for California and surrounding states as one of the hottest air masses in recorded history develops over the region early next week. Many places will record their hottest September day ever, possibly multiple days in a row.
I was really surprised when @ashishkjha said on TV this morning that it is a good time to ditch our masks, although "if we are nervous we can certainly wear them for a little longer". These are our case counts. They have started to come down but are still very high.
This is ice on my dry sidewalk. I am blown away at its beauty.

Go Santa Cruz County! Getting my first dose tomorrow at East Cliff Family Health.
Not only does Santa Cruz County rank 9th in per capita vaccinations in California (3rd among counties 250k+), but we’ve vaccinated 62 percent of residents aged 75+, and 36 percent of those aged 65+, according to preliminary state data. Hope is here. santacruzhealth.org/HSAHome/…

Great lenticular cloud display today from Las Cruces. It provided a good distraction from preparing multiple drought presentations for next week. Of course I had to get a better view from Tortugas Mtn. #nmwx

My research-based "high-saturated fat diet" as of late: White sugar, canola oil, Crisco, and a handful of Hershey's Kisses blended into a slurry that I put in BPA-free ziplock bags and extrude into my mouth whenever hunger pangs set in. Coming soon to Primal Kitchen.
This is what passed for a "high saturated-fat diet" in research sometimes. Sucrose 424g/Kg Canola Oil 50 g/Kg Cocoa Butter 50 g/Kg Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (Copha) 131 g/Kg No wonder we can't come to any conclusions... specialtyfeeds.com/new/wp-co…

Okay, the new Weather West post is finally up! Looks like a truly wild weather week--quite a lot to discuss, and I tried to cover it all. The tradeoff is between huge snowpack/water supply gains vs. debris flow/flood risk near fire scars... #CAwx #CAwater weatherwest.com/archives/804…

Friends and neighbors: Stay safe in the coming days.
Replying to @sccounty
Sign up for emergency alerts at scr911.org and check your evacuation zone at community.zonehaven.com. Most importantly, if you are at high risk for debris flow, make arrangements to relocate well in advance of the storm. #StaySafe
You want to support Russians? Support Navalny and keep Putin out of your politics, your borders, your computer systems? Tell your politicians to treat him like the mafia terror sponsor that he is, or they are complicit in this crackdown and his next murder.

Uh oh. This could put friends and neighbors at risk. Fingers crossed!
Models appear to be honing on the increasing potential for a slow-moving/stalled #AtmosphericRiver somewhere in CA between SF and LA mid next week. That would lead to potentially significant flash flood risk, especially if this happens near recent burn scars. Stay tuned. #CAwx

It's still early, but there are increasing signs that a strong, dynamic, & cold storm could affect CA toward middle of next wk. Heavy rainfall, very heavy mountain snowfall, & strong winds poss. Could be issues w/2020 burn scar flood/debris flow risk, esp. Santa Cruz Mtns. #CAwx

Thread Re: #DietaryGuidelines (DGA), just out: USDA-HHS Secys said they're for “all Americans,” yet the DGA is scoped ONLY for disease prevention, not treatment. This ignores the 60% of US with a diet-related disease. DGA is thus for minority of Americans who are healthy.
