NYC min wage hits $17 in Jan 2026. CA already at $16.90 — plus paid leave mandates. Restaurants are cutting hours or just closing. Texas and Florida don't carry that overhead. New spots keep opening there. Your city feeling it yet?

Empty storefronts, longer waits, higher checks — that's the invisible tax. Small biz owners are leaving, not fighting. Low-reg states are picking up what high-reg ones dropped.

2026 min wages: CA $16.90, NYC $17, WA $17.13 — 19+ states going up. TX and FL have no state income tax and lighter regs. The business migration numbers match exactly what you'd expect from those two facts.

We called this out a month ago before this tweet! We are building a company that would historically need more than 20 people to operate with just a small team.
A sobering thought on the speed of AI: Something that took 50 eng, 4 PMs, and 1.5 designers 6-12mo to build in 2018/2019 can now be (mostly) done by two people in a few days. And I know this because I led the team in 2018. And a 2-person team just pitched me on it. Gulp.
