Our new paper on extreme sea levels along the German Baltic Sea coast was just published! We find that tide-gauge data alone is not sufficient to accurately estimate large storm surge events, such as the one which occurred in October this year. @ArneArns tinyurl.com/3pr58ze
While this has significant ramifications for the design of coastal protection, we show that historical information can be used to supplement the available systematic data, resulting in improved extreme sea level estimates! #NHESS

How does the duration of a storm surge affect flood risk? Our new paper in @FrontMarineSci led by Jorid Hoeffken, with @DangendorfSonke, @whsflyngthsthng, where we compare storms with the same peak water level but different durations/intensities.

subTIWs! What are they? What effect do they have on vertical mixing in the tropical Atlantic? @SpechtMia can tell you 🤓 #OSM20 #WomenInScience
