White rhinos 🦏 are a sentinel species for ecosystems in southern Africa. Conservation requires occasional immobilisation, which can have negative health effects. This article provides vital insights into treatment to mitigate these effects. Read here ➡️ doi.org/10.1093/conphys/coaf…

A pity that the authors of this study ignored the work showing that rhinos do have sweat glands and very high rates of cutaneous water loss.
How not being able to sweat could wipe out the white and black rhino in Southern Africa 😔 theconversation.com/rhinos-c… #EnvironmentAndEnergy #Rhinoconservation #ClimateChange

Very excited to say that the first paper from my PhD is out! We showed that immobilised lions experience severe hypertension and cardiac arrhythmias. While this is a step forward, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done to improve lion immobilisation protocols.

It’s a great day when you get two papers accepted, a few hours apart. And even better when they both belong to a PhD student! Congrats @_ash_flash_

You know it’s a good PhD meeting when the boardroom table and a screen are required for looking at the data. And coffee! ⁦@_ash_flash_⁩ ⁦@leith_meyer⁩
