American soccer is forever anchored to the least ambitious, in and outside of college soccer.
Men's college soccer celebrated its move to a fall-spring season. But behind the scenes, there's a strong push to block it.
~150 schools have submitted rescission votes. The NCAA D-1 board will discuss today.

World-class goalkeepers pull off match-winning saves by combining simple movements into one fantastic action. (Explanation) ⬇️
Take Spain National Team and @ArsenalWFC GK @marisabelrr1 recent late game match-saver against the USWNT. Misa demonstrates elite tactical foresight: an unobstructed central starting position, a subtle lean to the ball line, and a clean reset on the strike.
Instead of defaulting to a chaotic push-off, she uses quick lateral micro-movements to track the ball's flight and safely steer it around the post.
Do you train steering in traffic with obstructed views? How do you layer it into your sessions? Full breakdowns @goalkeeperpod w/ @letsallsoccer @michaelmagid

The one where Michael is making a sincere point and I’m just cracking open a cold one with the boys
Goalkeepers are ALWAYS to blame for mistakes because the youth soccer culture does not encourage them to take risks on the pitch. Breakdown Below⬇️
I hear it all the time. Team Coach: "I wish my goalkeeper could play with confidence, like this player over here." — Points to their center forward who mishits a shot on goal.
That same coach, when their goalkeeper takes an awkward prep touch and the ball bounces off them into the shin of an opposing attacker: "What are you doing?! What were you thinking?! Do I need to find someone that can play with their feet?!"
Do you see the problem here?
Both players performed actions that were unsuccessful, yet one is praised and the other is shunned despite both being correct on intent. Which of these players is going to be more willing to accept more responsibility? The goalkeeper or the forward?
If we want to build goalkeepers that are excited to take on responsibility, we need to change our coaching behaviors around mistakes, and praise the intent and commitment to an action over the end result.
How do your club environments manage possession mistakes with your keepers?

You make one tweet about creating a new pathway to American citizenship and accounts flood to yell at you, but also saying they’re not xenophobic lol.
Genuinely can’t tell who is a bot and who is just an old person on this app.
This coach is at his third school in three years but points to the “overflowing transfer portal” to prove that the players are in it too much for the money (??)
Iowa State bought out his contract from his previous school for $4 million. Glad he finally found the “right fit” for him and that money wasn’t a factor in any of this lol.
Hilarious when coaches criticize the players for taking more money when they’re doing it at an exponentially higher rate as them.
Worth two minutes of your time to hear Jimmy Rogers lay bare one of the main ills facing big-time college sports and the athletes themselves.
Iowa State Daily's @henry_annen asked Rogers what he needs from new AD Jared Benko to elevate Iowa State football.
Good stuff.
What if we just gave them a pathway to becoming an American citizens upon completing their degree?
Or is there another reason why people are mad at foreigners coming to our country? 🤔
Missouri State is a public university funded by American taxpayers. Their men’s soccer team has 27 players. 26 of them are from other countries. 1 American.
Is this what “college sports” looks like now? @Kayceeunplugged reports on a troubling trend.

USL has got to get the UPSL under their umbrella.
Would change their tidy little pro/rel in-house project to include 300+ clubs across all 50 states and set the precedent for getting more clubs moving in the same direction.
The United Soccer League has launched a new brand identity system aimed at creating cohesion between the eight leagues that make up the organization’s player pathway. The move comes with the @USLChampionship set to launch a new Division I men’s league called USL Premier and introduce a promotion-and-relegation system between its three professional men’s leagues in 2028.

Going on ESPN and shoving it right to them about how bad this is is grade A work and I salute you 🫡
These mind games exist within goalkeeper-striker relationships as well, and it goes both ways.
Penalties are an obvious one but even on distribution, both sides can impact the other’s future decisions, whether their opponent realizes it or not.
BUNTING MANIPULATES PITCHER APPROACH AND SETS THE TABLE FOR FUTURE MOMENTS
With 2 outs and no body on in the 3rd inning, losing 4-0, @Brewers Manager Pat Murphy told #9 hitter David Hamilton to lay down a bunt in a seemingly unimportant at bat.
Why?
Because Murphy knew Hamilton was known for bunting and they could set the table for a future at bat and big moment later in the game where he’d get a pitch to hit.
And that’s exactly what happened.
Hamilton bunted.
Hamilton got out.
But in the 5th, in Hamilton’s next at bat, he got a pitch in the heart of the plate and singled scoring a run and bringing the Brewers within 1.
And in the 9th, Hamilton did it again, homering on a get me over slider and extending the Brewers lead to 6-4.
You bunt to create future moments, and the Brewers did just that.

Some people are builders and some are obstacles.
Whether it’s finding a way to move schools from D1 to D3 or a new transfer fee mechanism, creative problem solving can move everyone forward, not just leave yourself anchored to the lowest common denominator.
NEW: Duke head coach Manny Diaz tells @AndyAriOn3 that schools should receive a "transfer fee" when players portal:
"If you sign a bunch of great recruits and you develop them and they go somewhere else, I'll go back to European soccer. You should receive a transfer fee."

We’re going into the vault to that one time @AbbyWambach made a fan drop his hot dog 🌭
Timing component very similar between infielders and goalkeepers. It’s tenths of a second that separate success and failure.
Incredible prep step view from the NLCS.
SS, 2B and CF are all in frame, giving us a great look at how their prep steps time up with the pitcher’s knee drop, the ball entering the hitting zone, and contact.
Contrary to popular belief, you don’t want your feet planted at the exact moment of contact. Notice how these fielders are slightly in the air as the ball enters the hitting zone and time their feet to land a split second AFTER contact.
This allows the eyes to read where the ball is headed based on the contact angle. As the feet come back to the ground, the body can begin to self organize and align in that direction. The fielder can then use the ground to explode into a clean first step directly where he needs to go.
Landing too early can leave you stagnant or flat footed and create unnecessary false steps. Timing it correctly can help you get a cleaner first move and ultimately gain valuable range.
Small detail, but a really quality look that we don’t get often from a TV broadcast.

Very odd watching the broadcast and goalkeeper kits become more drab over the years. Things used to be so vibrant.
In three passes, all on the ground, Spain got a clean shot off about 12 yards from goal.
Not sure if this is a Hayes or team issue but concerning to say the least.
