Want to protect public pensions, give tax credits to small businesses, and provide exemptions on household necessities to families? Vote YES on I-645!

Why remove tax protections from public pensions if there's no intent to tax them?
Vote YES on I-645 - protect public pensions!
The fact that pensions are included EVEN THOUGH the current limits don’t impact them is precisely what creates the suspicion that the limits will be lowered.
This is not a counterpoint. It is the point! #waleg
At the very least, we believe parents should have the right to know their student is receiving care in or out of school. Parents sign release forms for Advil, field trips, or pizza parties. Mental and medical health records should be on the list of things parents know about.

A good explanation here of why Washington State should vote NO on I-638 theguardian.com/us-news/2026…
And parents are not allowed to know when their child begins receiving medical or mental health care from their schools.
NEW: At least 15,437 Washington minors had a transgender-related diagnosis on their insurance claims from 2017 to 2023.
In 2022, that included 1 in 58 teen girls.

Wow, just couldn't be more wrong.
I-638 would require boys to stay out of girls' sports by adding back a checkbox on the sports physical form that already exists. Doctors already check M/F on their medical history forms when an athlete completes their sports physical. It only applies to students in Jr. High and High School.
This parroting of fear mongering talking points is no way to discuss protecting girls' rights.

Turns out even this is barely true. 95% of the tax goes to the general fund.
There’s no guarantee it goes into school meals — it could go into paying for fancy limos, who knows?
Indeed, an amendment to the bill would have created a dedicated “Universal Free School Lunches Account” in the state treasury and required that 5% of the revenues from the new millionaires tax be deposited into it. Money in the account could only be spent (after legislative appropriation) on funding free school lunches for Washington’s K-12 students.
6346-S.E AMH MEND MORI 409 was proposed by Republican Rep. Gloria Mendoza (14th District).
It was not adopted on March 9, 2026, during floor debate on the House striking amendment to ESSB 6346. It failed on basically party line vote.
Washington State’s millionaires tax will fund universal free school meals for every public school student in the state. Unless voters repeal the tax. Vote NO on I-645! washingtonpost.com/education…
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The millionaires tax deposits all revenue into the state general fund with only non-binding intent language for universal school meals (a dedicated account amendment was rejected); ~70% of students already have access to free meals via existing programs.

“I-001 does NOT give child molesters a free pass to confidential records. Period. Stop weaponizing sexually abused children to deceive voters into voting against parents rights.”

Our team reached out to the Guardian to get some corrections made, but they ignored us. Here's the truth about I-638:
- The initiative doesn't require or authorize exams.
- The only requirement is that an athlete's doctor verifies their sex during routine sports physicals which will be as simple as using existing medical history forms, or a history of treating the student.
- I-638 only applies to Jr. High and High School sports.
Too bad Guardian readers couldn't read the truth in the article. Vote YES on I-638, stand up for girls!
This Guardian hit piece against the WA girls’ sports initiative is wildly over the top. ‘Mandatory invasive exams! Banning kids from sports! Attacking rights!’
Just a constant stream of lies.
But the most egregious is the claim that the initiative opens the door to predators like Larry Nassar. I mean come on. The fear-mongering here is ABSURD.
Vote YES on I-638!
Education is the first funding priority for Washington's legislature. So, not only does the money not exist yet, but schools must be funded before any other program gets money. Don't fall for the lies, vote YES on I-645.
Protections for students will still exist with I-001. Vote YES to ensure that parents can know what's going on with their student in school.
Young athletes know they shouldn't be forced to compete against boys. They know that they deserve their own leagues. Why doesn't Bob Ferguson, Chris Reykdal, or Jamie Pedersen know that?
Vote YES on I-638 to stand with the girls.
Elise Bierer of Battle Ground High (WA) walked off the starting line to protest running against a biological boy in a district cross country meet Wednesday. The choice ended her season. My column on the sophomore who broke down into tears after taking a stance.
