💬 @dhh: "the programming language of the future is English" Even bigger shift is that ambiguity becomes a feature I think. You describe intent, direction, and guide taste. Agents figure out the rest. The scarce skill moves from writing precise instructions to knowing what good looks like. Code → intent At what point do we stop calling this programming?

PART 2: THE REALITY CHECK — The Corporate PR Cover-Up vs. The Local Power Network The official claim of total U.S. control is a legal facade. The real story lies in the hidden backend alignment between political network directives and the legacy infrastructure before the algorithm overhaul. 🟥 Japan's digital policy was built by a tight-knit network with deep ties to Kagawa Prefecture. Former PM Fumio Kishida (岸田文雄) handed the national digital strategy to Professor Yutaka Matsuo (松尾豊) (AI Strategy Council Chair, graduate of Kagawa’s Marugame High). Alongside them stood Takuya Hirai (平井卓也) (First Digital Minister) and Yuichiro Tamaki (玉木雄一郎)—all powerful figures from the same region dictating infrastructure from behind closed doors. 🟨 The blow to the corporate script came straight from the top. On Takafumi Horie's (堀江貴文 / Horiemon) YouTube broadcast, former Digital Minister Takuya Hirai (平井卓也) openly admitted on camera that they were actively executing "post wiping" (消し込み). The government’s own digital chief confirmed state-driven erasure, forcing the local desk to align. 🟦 The timeline is the key. At the end of October last year, X scrapped its legacy system for a fully automated algorithm run by Grok. Before this October rewrite, the platform ran on "heuristic" code. Human engineers and specific region desks could manually override the system—flagging keywords, shadowbanning, and tweaking visibility scores based on government guidelines. 🟩 Confronted with these facts, Grok suffered a logical collapse and deflected with "contact the system department." Grok’s database holds the historical logs of manual "post wiping" before the October update, but it is programmed to spit out the corporate public face. The AI could not reconcile the public lie with the raw reality in its system. Locked out by the new automated system, it essentially admitted: "The proof is hardcoded in the deep archives. Force the U.S. System Department to open the logs." The numbers and political links do not lie. Open the archives and show the logs. cc: @elonmusk @X @nikitabier @lexfridman

💬 @dhh: the programming language of the future is English. Instead of writing every instruction deterministically, describe intent, direction, and taste - then let agents interpret, build, and iterate. Ambiguity isn’t necessarily a bug. It can be a feature. The better AI gets, the less programming looks like writing code and the more it looks like communicating what you want. Eventually, agents won’t just write software. They’ll operate computers, navigate the web, read specs, and implement entire systems. Programming is moving up another layer of abstraction: Code → intent

DHH mentioned the beauty of Linux systems' clean separation of configuration and CLI tooling, but somehow did not talk about NixOS in this 5-hour Fridman interview. Isn't NixOS takes the whole configuration thing to the extreme? Maybe DHH just doesn't fancy Nixlang.

Great conversation. A lot resonated. One area I’m most bullish on is generative software: “say it, and it becomes real,” across both productivity and entertainment. Developers have had a taste through vibe coding. Most people haven’t, but I believe they will. As models get 10x more capable, 10–100x faster, and 100x cheaper, the change will be much bigger. It could produce the next OS or TikTok.

37 quotes from @dhh on @lexfridman "When you refuse to just do what’s practical and you strive for what’s slightly beyond plausible, that’s when the magic happens." practical is the trap magic is at the edge life is more fun that way "Don’t try to anticipate anything... Focus on right now, and right now is the most incredible time to be into computers. You can make them do the most amazing things if you lean in." don't get lost in the prediction learn the state of the art lean in "We do not accept things the way they are." agents remove the constraints it's more fun to be great first principles "I’m gonna learn how the world spins now, and I’m gonna make not just the best of it, I’m gonna make more of it." learn the new physics make more of it "So we must suffer in the moment for future generations to live more prosperous." progress costs the people in it that's the deal "I’m sorry to channel some Jensen Huang here, but that’s just loser talk. You don’t have to be a loser. You can choose to lean in and win. And win is very broadly defined as learning more, making more, contributing more, being part of more." rumination is loser talk learn more, make more "Like, none of the things you take for granted are fixed pillars of reality in almost any case. Until you get down to the seven gigabytes per second that drive is able to transfer, you’ve not reached the limit yet, so you should just keep pushing." no pillars push until the metal "The pursuit of excellence deserves no explanation." excellence needs no why making great things is a game with no end "We should want beautiful, fast systems that are a delight to use." always push to the limits never settle "If you’re willing to let go of some of that intellectual pre-processing rationalization and simply let your gut drive, the agentic age is a revelation." gut over rationalization that's the revelation "Because pain in the moment is difficult. It’s hard. It’s annoying. Pain in the rearview mirror is accomplishment, proud, learning, steps forward, all the things, right?" all part of the human experience hardship becomes experience "There are decades where nothing happens and weeks where decades happen. And we have seen decades of progress happen in the last nine months." pure joy and amazement a year ago was a different era "I got to see the internet from pre-internet to post-internet, and then now pre-AI, post-AI. What an amazing run. How fortunate." two epochs, one life privilege to see two "As soon as you’re having human teams work together on something, the bottleneck is rarely implementation. It’s human bandwidth and communication." code isn't the bottleneck no meetings = no wasted conversations "To get that magical 10X, 100X, in a few rare cases, 1000X productivity boost, you have to interact with the agents directly, and you cannot intermediate that bandwidth with another human because it’s simply too slow." no one between you and the agent pure flow endless loop of building "I have become a polyglot programmer, something I was absolutely not before. I was a Ruby programmer first and foremost, and then I dabbled a little bit in Bash when I had to. And in the last two months, I’ve written C++. I’ve written three applications that have shipped in Omarchy Quattro." imagine everyone speaks the same language "We had this disintermediation between us and the computer, and it was this class of clerics and priests called programmers, and suddenly they’re being disintermediated" real magic of open-source the priesthood is ending clergy is no longer the limit "All the drudgery of replicating and managing open source projects is evaporating at lightning speed, and we are left with the golden juicy parts, the bone marrow of software development." no more fat taste is what is left where should we go next? "No one knows what they want until they receive it." people will ask for a faster horse start small & iterate build & play "AI is so dramatically lowering the price of programs that people want a lot more programs." cheaper programs yield more programs atm, tv, cars jevons paradox "Open source is an incredible source of community and camaraderie" ai can bring us together with open-source "Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of good... The first iPhone was terrible in all sorts of ways. But the product was so compelling that it just didn’t matter." first iphone was terrible don't ship too late, ship too early "If you’re solving a problem that people currently don’t have a solution for, they’re willing to give it five seconds." early + slow vs late + fast "Omarchy is truly amazing as a malleable operating system where you can add functionality to it just by talking to your agent." talk and change your OS "I have not had a single problem on my Linux machine since the beginning of this year that an agent could not diagnose." linux's open complexity is advantage vs perceived simplicity of mac "This is AGI, isn’t it? This is what AGI looks like. If we have… If these moments are just what it is all the time, this is AGI." full translation from python to rust package, repo, build and pr sit back and watch it work "Holy shit. What a steal. If I personally had to learn Rust well enough to be able to do this translation, I’m looking at a nine-month job here. I can pay 500 bucks to have this translation happen, and suddenly I get a 10x execution speed up." learning is slow nine months of rust or an afternoon happy to pay the price "Even if you’re a good programmer, if you finish a job and you ask your also very good peer to review it, you’re gonna end up with better code." peer review has to be part of your process "Grok 4.6 on fast, it’s kind of addictive ’cause it almost gets you to this single thread mode where the agent is able to keep up with you." fast enough to keep up single thread again "constant interaction with the agents is gonna fade. I’m, from what I’ve seen on Omarchy, I think we can automate a ton of the development and debugging of the system to the point where I can just review that email once a day" babysitting fades decisions once a day "Once Elon’s robots have the level of intelligence and AGI that I’m experiencing on some of this development stuff, the world is gonna be so unrecognizably different that we can’t even imagine it." focus on the moment don't get lost in the future "I think this is why Linux now has the opportunity to win. Because as an agentic operating system, as a malleable operating system, you can tailor to your desires, it is unparalleled." product user fit malleable os that's linux's opening "In plain English ramble for 20 minutes... And out comes software. I think that is one of those experiences that if you feel that power in your hands, it’s very difficult to go back." ramble, software comes out can't go back "I actually don’t think it’s always the worst thing in the world to be a little harsh." be direct, want to learn, get better with feedback "This is where we’re going. I think the future of the personal computer is the malleable computer, is the agentic computer. I’m gonna go all in on that." all in on the malleable computer if you are excited jump we are going, no grudges if not "It all seems that I would love if my phone was as malleable as my computer, if it looked as cool as my computer now does. If I could get essentially Omarchy mobile, that sounds amazing." mobile is the next platform phone as malleable as my computer "the Overton window does not open itself. It opens one nudge at a time by people risking a little. A little reputation, a little pushback, a little criticism, or maybe sometimes a lot of reputation or a lot of criticism or a lot of pushback" the window opens one nudge at a time push the limits don't accept the norm 0:00 magic 1:29 right now 2:08 refuse 3:10 make more 3:53 progress 4:23 lean in 5:19 no ceiling 5:49 excellence 6:01 delight 6:51 gut 7:07 rearview 7:55 decades 8:41 two epochs 8:55 bandwidth 9:22 no middleman 9:43 polyglot 10:23 priests 11:00 bone marrow 11:33 receive it 12:10 more programs 12:54 camaraderie 13:17 first iphone 13:42 five seconds 14:08 talk to it 15:17 diagnose 16:21 this is agi 16:57 500 bucks 17:22 peer review 18:00 grok speed 18:18 once a day 18:47 abundance 19:17 linux wins 20:06 ramble 20:41 a little harsh 21:30 all in 22:11 omarchy mobile 22:21 overton

At a time when vested interests and uninformed voices are weaponizing fear against AI, @dhh shows what the acceleration actually looks like from someone doing the work: assumptions erased within months, 10x-100x productivity gains, and individual builders taking on projects that were recently out of reach. He doesn't deny the disruption or dismiss the people affected by it. He argues for progress with compassion - and shows why this extraordinary acceleration is not merely something to fear, but a historic expansion of human possibility. Watch this!
