If HMRC are allowed to take money from individualsβ bank accounts, as proposed in the budget today, then we are heading to a dark place.
This tool could be used against anyone deemed to be a threat by the government of the day.
π¨ NEW: John Healey is set to announce the following in his Budget later
- The gas standing charge will be scrapped to save Β£27 a year on a typical bill
- Green levies on energy bills will be scraped "for good"
- NHS prescription charges will be frozen at Β£9.90 for another year
- Poorer households on benefits will receive extra help with energy bills before January's sharp rises
- The VAT cut on electricity bills, which was due to expire in April, will be extended (though it's not clear if this will be announced in the Budget or separately)
- The Government will remove the link between gas and electricity prices, which currently inflates household bills, "in the long term"
- Banks will face higher taxes, with the surcharge on their profits potentially rising from 3% to 8%, making it the Budgetβs biggest revenue raiser
- HMRC will be given powers to seize money from the bank accounts of people who fail to pay their tax
- The freeze on rail fares will reportedly not be extended beyond April
- Online retailers like Amazon, eBay and Temu will be made responsible for collecting unpaid VAT from sellers to fund a cut in business rates for high street shops
- The thresholds for income tax will be frozen again so another half a million people may be dragged into the higher rate
- January's planned increase in fuel duty will be cancelled
- Pensioners relying solely on the state pension will see their tax-free allowance rise to Β£13,036, in line with the pension increase, so they don't pay income tax
- Billions in long-term borrowing to invest in defence firms and raise the share of GDP spent on defence (without breaking fiscal rules, as the investments are expected to generate returns)
- The upcoming "Your First Home" scheme will be made more generous to provide greater support for middle-income earners
- The Budget will also assume the Rosebank oil field is approved, which will generate "significant tax revenues"

π¨ NEW: Tory MP calls Robert Jenrick a "Neanderthal" for backing cuts to Β£6 Billion spent on foreign aid.
β’ Tory MP Andrew Mitchell has described Jenrick as a βNeanderthalβ in the House of Commons over his support for reducing the UKβs foreign aid budget.
β’ The response came following a question from Jenrick to Labour's Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband. "How would he justify to working people and pensioners spending Β£6 billion on foreign aid whilst freezing the tax-free person allowance and cutting the state pension?"
β’ Miliband backed up the Tory, by replying with "I would say to him, I think the answer came from the person who used to be in his party, the party he used to be in, which is that the money we spend on foreign aid is absolutely about preventing the problems from elsewhere in the world coming here."

I am happy to oblige the media and change my phraseology for Kemi Badenoch.
Instead of "scammer," which seems to trigger them, I am happy to call her a habitual and compulsive liar.
A con artist.
A confidence trickster.
She is a fraudster, a grifter, a charlatan, and a chancer.
She is a mountebank, a snake oil salesman, a fake, a phoney, a spiv, a flim-flam woman, and a merchant of deception.

π¨ EX TORY COUNCILLOR PLEADS GUILTY TO 56 OFFENCES!
Philip Young, a former Conservative councillor in Swindon, has admitted 56 offences, including rape, sexual assault and drugging his former wife.
βΌοΈ He advertised his wife on Craigslist, Grindr and swinging websites, a court has heard.
βΌοΈ Prosecutors say she was drugged and sexually assaulted by multiple men.
βΌοΈ Four other men are now standing trial, accused of sexual offences against her. They deny the charges.
Absolutely sickening. And 56 offences! Let that sink in.
I wonder how many media outlets will remember to mention heβs an EX TORY COUNCILLOR in their headlines. π€

Another interesting "direction of travel" decision here.
Kemi's "New" Conservative Party has re-selected REMAINER Roger Gale as a parliamentary candidate.
Gale is 83, and recently REFUSED to vote for ECHR withdrawal, and in fact called the idea of leaving "a grave mistake."
He was previously suspended from parliament for attempted to influence judges to protect a sexual assault convict, his friend and former MP Charlie Elphicke.
Tell us, @KemiBadenoch, Is this really a NEW Conservative Party?
Or is it the SAME OLD TORIES?
I'm following all the things the Tory party is doing. And one of those things is selecting their candidates for the next election.
Remember, Kemi Badenoch keeps claiming that it's a NEW Conservative Party, and one that learned from their "mistakes."
So why then, have they just selected yet ANOTHER Remainer candidate, who voters already kicked out in 2024?
David Morris MP has just been selected for Morecombe and Lunsdale.
He was an arch Cameroon. A firm Remainer. And said in an interview about his renewed candidacy: "I am returning to... finish what I started.β
UH... What you started over those 14 failed years?
NO THANKS!
P.S. Guess what David did in his years out of parliament?
That's right!
He went to be Vice President to the Council of Europe, and in a ceremony at the Palais de Europe in Strasbourg on the evening of Monday September 29, Mr Theodoros Roussopoulos the President of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly, awarded Mr Morris with the Medal of Europe.
"Iβm truly humbled to accept this prestigious award," Morris said.
