Derry folk should keep a close eye on which parties want to throw more money at Belfast in the wake of a Fleadh high. Those who want more funding for Belfast are ensuring Derry loses out. Waterside Theatre closed. Echo Echo closed. Sports dome sacked. Magee expansion in doubt.

Yet 🤡's say, 'but it's the same for all capital cities.' It's not. Nowhere on these islands gets close to 84% of the student population + 75% arts funding, £340m bus station, £700m maternity & children's hospitals etc. Grotesque disparity. With the 2nd city living off scraps.

If people don't get how the NW is failed then they'll never get it. It's not about this particular funding pot which to my mind isn't the most important. But, if you overlay a map showing where most health, education, Invest NI, arts funding all goes — it's Greater Belfast.
I've a page in @Irish_News about NI Football Fund (TNIFF). It's not just @DerryCityFC who missed the funding - all 5 of the applicants frm Co.Derry were unsuccessful. So the TNIFF map has a big hole in it. Because Gov Funding in NI ignores regional balance tinyurl.com/4x6kpu3e

I've worked on a long-read piece about a cultivated crisis in Derry's education system—primary to higher. Timing is coincidental on the back of UU job losses, yet makes it more pertinent. It's an ugly picture of neglect. I hope some people will read it: colmcillepress.com/news-3

R V SOLDIER F - STATEMENT ON BEHALF OF THE FAMILY OF WILLIAM MCKINNEY Following the judgment delivered at Belfast Crown Court this morning, Mickey McKinney, brother of William McKinney said: “Today marks the end of the prosecution of Soldier F for the murder and attempted murder of the innocents on Bloody Sunday. “The families and wounded and our supporters leave this courthouse with an incredible sense of pride in our achievements. “Soldier F has been discharged from the defendant’s criminal dock, but it is one million miles away from being an honourable discharge. “Unlike his victims, there has been no declaration of Soldier F’s innocence. “Soldier F created 2 young widows on Bloody Sunday and he orphaned 12 children. And he deprived dozens of siblings of a loving brother. “The Bloody Sunday families do not lay the blame for today’s decision with the trial judge. “The blame lies firmly: - With the British state; - With the RUC who failed to investigate the murders on Bloody Sunday properly, or indeed at all; and - With the British Army who shielded and enabled its soldiers to continue to murder with impunity, and immunity, and also with the office of the then Director of Public Prosecutions who, with a nod and a wink, complicitly signed off on decisions not to prosecute in 1972 without even raising an eyebrow. “Most importantly however, responsibility lies with the thugs of Frank Kitson’s private army, the 1st Battalion of the Parachute Regiment who opened fire, and those who directed and protected them. “Despite the heroism, steadfastness and dignity of the Bloody Sunday Families and Wounded, a coward walks free from the dock. “Not through the front door of this courthouse like every other vindicated, wrongly accused defendant proudly does, but instead, once his curtain has been pulled back for him, creeping out the back door. “The type of thug, who is well used to special treatment, well used to having important and powerful connections, with his police escort in tow, back over to hide in Palace Barracks, where it all began. “Thank you.”

A deeply upsetting and powerful film. The most shocking thing is, this is only a snapshot of the never-ending horrors being inflicted on Palestinians.
We were so desperate for our film made with approved by and lauded by @BBCNews bosses had gone out on the national broadcaster that was so respected across the world. The Doctors told us they thought @BBCNews would never broadcast their stories; tragically they were right. Thanks to @Channel4 & @zeteo_news their stories are being heard #GazaDoctorsUnderAttack

NEW MET POLICE statement on Kneecap ‘kill MP’ November 2023 comments: “A thorough investigation has now been completed by detectives from the Counter Terrorism Command, which included interviewing an individual under caution and seeking early investigative advice from the Crown Prosecution Service.  A range of offences were considered as part of the investigation. However, given the time elapsed between the events in the video and the video being brought to police attention, any potential summary only offences were beyond the statutory time limit for prosecution. Relevant indictable offences were considered by the investigation team and, based on all of the current evidence available, a decision has been made that no further action will be taken at this time.”

Kneecap don't exist as far as the BBC schedule is concerned. I'm intrigued as to how much of the set will be censored. Will the screens be pixelated to prevent any messages of support for Palestine or criticism of Israel being broadcast? Glastonbury website Vs BBC schedule 👇

The department and EA have been all at sea on this. It appears deflection is still the order of the day. Weeks later the department and EA refuse to answer basic questions. Cannot even say what pot £1.33m came out of for a major extension at Lisneal.

RIP David Johansen. As a music fan, particularly punk rock, he was a true original who paved the way. Seeing the New York Dolls support The White Stripes in Belfast in my teens is a treasured memory. A 'one and only' frontman whose music will live on. NYD💄LUV
Safe travels, David Johansen x

Thank you to @NUJofficial Derry & NW for words of solidarity. I extend that to those who have backed me the past couple of weeks. Those who've supported me for years, but also those who simply have professional respect. At times like these you learn who has your back.
