“designing much faster than the others” — this so daft and makes it clear they don’t understand design at all. “Designing fast” (or slow) is just not a thing. If you conflate “producing ui by piecing together stuff” and “design” then the former (which is a form of assembly-line practice) can surely be fast or slow. What makes the practice of design challenging is not how to put a ui or poster together, it’s what the pieces are, what the message is, what is being communicated, how it all works together. So many of today’s “design” AI tools focus almost exclusively on the production part, on putting stuff together. I’d love to see an AI design tool that forms a deep understanding of a problem over the course of days or months and works like a creative partner. Call me on my bullshit, thinks about the whole, isn’t concerned really about the final arrangement of elements as much as it would understand the story and the message.
Revolut's designers are moving off Figma. Storonsky spotted one team designing much faster than the others. What they did: 1. Gave an LLM Revolut's design system at the code level 2. Prompted it to build new flows on top of that system 3. Got a live interface they can click through on a laptop or phone, instead of static frames Result: 3-4x faster. Now he's pushing it to every designer at Revolut. His job, as he describes it: find what works in one team and spread it across the company. Full breakdown here: productmarketfit.tech/p/revo…

This describes every data led software company and why software factories will not produce taste
A24 vs. Netflix shows the taste trap tech companies fall into: they want the results of good taste without investing in it. Being a tastemaker means taking risks before the data comes in. Waiting for data means you're not setting trends, you're following them.

San Francisco has not built enough housing to keep up with population growth. This leads to higher housing prices, forcing people who don't work in tech to move out of the city. This hurts everyone, as the city is now less interesting. Agree other cities should learn from this.
San Francisco’s transition from counter culture capital to LinkedIn: The City™️ needs to be studied. Not so it can be replicated, but so it can never happen anywhere else ever again.

Palantir's merch feels like the endpoint in streetwear's evolution, which started with young kids in urban areas — mostly ethnic minorities from low-income families — creating their own style from the ground up. Over time, that aesthetic was co-opted by luxury brands seeking "authenticity." And now, by a surveillance company seeking cultural capital. Streetwear used to be an aesthetic defined by the ground-up by people were disempowered in political and economic life, but engaged in actual street culture. Now it's an aesthetic dictated from the top down by giant corporations with no conenction to such cultures. And used by political and economic elites who want to appear as outsiders.

Online Ceramics has been building this visual style since 2016. - more "tech merch" could look good if companies gave collaborators room to interpret the brand. - we're getting almost a decade of someone else's creative identity with this collab, PLUS the level of care that goes into the pieces - their own cotton blanks are cut and sewn in LA, and the tie-dyes are done by hand in their studio.
i wish more tech merch looked like this
