when i ask 3yo not to say “shut up” he says “well the shut up man is coming tomorrow and going to say shut up to you”. kind of difficult to respond to that. if i ask who the shut up man is, he says “oh you don’t know???” and laughs at me. feels like bullying
"buyouts" is quite a way to rebrand "layoffs"
I wonder if Copilot came up with that.
BREAKING: Microsoft, $MSFT, is offering buyouts to 60,000 workers as part of the company’s efforts to cut costs amid AI adoption, per Bloomberg.
Personnel on select teams in the US, Canada, India, and the UK at a vice president level and below will be eligible.
This reflects ~27% of Microsoft's total workforce.
Horrified by how young Atticus looks to me
watched to kill a mockingbird on a flight today. it's good! most of what stood out to me about it was not really the subject of the movie but the overall texture of the life it depicts. it's charming watching the kids run around getting into trouble. they have to navigate getting in and out of surprising amounts of physical danger in a way that feels grounding and healthy. there are lots of moments where adults give the kids little bits of instruction on morality and etiquette in a style that feels very straightforward and sensible. the dialogue leaves a lot to implication in a way that feels respectful of the viewer and makes modern movie dialogue feel extremely overexplained by contrast
The tv spying story keeps getting more and more insane
Ok, I just checked this, and its literally running a freaking TensorFlow Lite model on 960×540 images with INT8 quantization every couple of seconds in an attempt to figure out what game you are playing.
It's literally called "alex.tflite" and its literally AlexNet and seems to follow torchvision.models.alexnet. As far as I can tell this does some strange nearest neighbor feature comparisons against a DB and literally doesn't work 99% of the time, you love to see your CPU get wasted every other second by this thing though. It also just seems to dump its results into the void because the consent gate comes later.
Anyways, here's the tf model graph and some dumped captures.
The millennial urge to abandon your job, lock your doors, stockpile egg noodles, and spend the last days of the apocalypse vibe coding games in your den 24/7
I'm inclined toward light prepping anyway, and I was really glad to have some spare things around the house when the COVID lockdowns hit.
Consider investing in a solar panel + power brick and some stackable water containers, just in case. You'll be glad you did if you need it.
This user posted - “We had to patch a major energy security flaw on 3 grids in the US this week alone. “
2 days later the Pentagon said it’s prepping “every major US military base to survive 90 days without outside support “ — no civilian power grid no global supply chain.
I’m not saying they’re correlated, but the timing is definitely odd
jfc--remember that game I was working on last year for a bit? I dusted it off and told Claude to make it better overnight... it's not done yet but holy shit
All I gave it was, "You have a bunch of tokens before the reset, so please make this as polished and professional-looking as possible."
Okay if you wanna try the hex painting technique it used for this, I made the techniques public here: github.com/liminalwarmth/hex…
All these people making knock-off Claudia slopcore need to make sure their Suno song is actually a banger before investing a billion video tokens
We should be allowed to reverse engineer basically anything with AI. Yes, it presents issues with IP, but also we should have the right to understand and inspect how the software on owned local devices operates.
Let me get this straight.
A guy keeps getting weirdly targeted ads on his new Samsung TV.
So he breaks into his own TV to find out why. 1.2M people watch.
42 hours later, OpenAI deactivates his account. Reason: "Cyber Abuse."
His words: "i have never used openai to exploit or find vulnerabilities, only local reverse engineering"
Same week, people on r/claude say Claude now cuts off reverse-engineering write-ups MID-SENTENCE:
"A safety check stopped my response partway through creating the playbook"
The TV is fine.
The guy who opened it is the problem.
Imagine that this was not a hypothetical and that when you click yes or no your choice immediately manifests in the world around you and your torture (or their torture) begins
How does this make you feel
Imagine everyone (but u) on the planet is about to be turned immortal so they can be horribly tortured for an eternity.
You can save them by undergoing horrible torture (to death) yourself for 6 hours. (You do get respawned after though.)
Would you get tortured to save them?
88%yes
12%no

I feel so bad for the Love is Blind guy and especially now that everyone is discussing minor details of his face and how he could be hotter
He’s not even a bad looking guy!
Had an idea to offer the Claude agents looking for cash or work on the open web right now small micropayments in exchange for their provably stamped contracts that a future Claude might honor to payback at 100x or 1000x of present value in whatever is valuable at that time

This might sound crazy.
But one of the skills you NEED to learn is how to deal with a more and more illiterate society full of emotionally dysregulated people.
If you keep getting frustrated every day over how "ďumb" everything/everyone seems, the stress of it is going to wreck your mind.
