If there's one thing I learned from Dr Nazir it's this: metaphors don't have to make sense. In fact they shouldn't make sense. For far too long they've been subjugated to the secondary status of having to stand for something other than themselves. The genius of Dr Nazir is that he made metaphors self-sufficient and if there's any justice in this world, one day they'll reward him with the Nobel Prize for this. This prize was a good and well-earned start on this path, no matter what the hoards of the envious say

A sitcom about Thomas Pynchon winning a $600,000 literary prize and then gradually losing his mind as the prize committee forces him to create a series of short-form Instagram videos promoting the award and showing off his morning routine.

Reading Carrie in the new edition. Phenomenal, both in its simplicity (two parallel episodes - the shower, the prom) & complexity (the interpolated extracts from fictional books & articles). Can see its influence in everything from To Die For to The Virgin Suicides…

💜 Yes parents please do. My mother told everyone she knew, I had my first period. I was mortified. I was a very shy withdrawn child anyway, after this I never told her anything else. Privacy is everything for a child. 💜

R.I.P. Maggie Smith. Seen here on the Parkinson show with Kenneth Williams, reading one of John Betjeman's poems (Death In Leamington) to Betjeman himself.

if you are high masking autistic person and you express your needs, people just think you are being controlling or difficult. when in reality you are attempting to bravely advocate for yourself and let your needs be known, quite possibly for the first time ever as an adult.

Having to deal w/ your trauma symptoms alone, over time, becomes its own complex traumatic stressor. Lacking the words to express what you're going through or an empathic witness to express it to is a special kind of hell.

Thank you @TopTweetTuesday @MatthewMCSmith for this fantastic spark of inspiration today. H.D is my source today, her love of Greek myth and her feminine moonly way suits the story of Circe as she watches Odysseus arrive on her island
